Title: Advice on subframe removal
Post by: Phil.xp on 04 August 2021, 20:04:31
Hello all, would anyone have experience or any knowledge on how to remove the front subframe from a 2.2DTi Omega?

Thanks.

Support the engine across the inner wings.
Undo the engine mounts.
Remove the wheels.
Undo the hub pinchbolts and separate the wishbone ball joints.
Undo the drop links.
Undo the six bolts holding the subframe to the chassis.
Drop the subframe.

A better question might be why?

Thanks for your reply!

I’m dropping the subframe due to corrosion on the chassis legs and it’s all being cut out and replaced with new, also I had a spare old new stock subframe around for a while as the one in the car is rotting away so replacing that afterwards.

In which case, I would be inclined to pull the engine first. ;) if only to better access all the wiring buried in the nearside inner wing...

Also, you only need to undo one nut and the top plate to drop each strut.

If you're using a lift, you could drop the entire drive train. The rear subframe is only a handful of bolts and the brake lines/cables.
