Does anyone have experience of the above? Replaced the originals @ 69k (because one side leaked a watery liquid and left a pool under the rear wheel) but with non self level shocks at the advice of local vaux dealer. Car thru rear mudflaps, kept bottoming out so we replaced them with new GM self level again. On all (or most) road deviations of a 'hole'/ 'ridge' kind, the rear end would give up a hollow slapping sound as if the rear wheels were just thrown into the holes without any spring or resistance causing a noisy 'hit' sound. All rear end was thoroughly checked for bushes/play etc. and nothing came to light. To prove/eliminate other possibles, we re-fitted the non self level shocks and the noise disappeared and returned to quiet and normal rear end suspension you would expect for 68k. Under warranty, returned self level shocks to GM and fitted a brand new GM pair again and guess what, with the same 'slapping down noises are just as evident. I might add that the normal up and down smooth operation on the road deviations is perfect and the shocks do self level on ignition its just that they don't seem to perform on regular holes. The original factory fitted that these were replacements for, never squeeked at all and i did wonder if the replacements spec was the same. Vauxhall dealer suggested I fill the boot with some weight to see if that helped but even if it does, who wants to carry a bag of cement in the boot as old ford capri handling problems were solved by? Can any one shed some light cos as you know, any noises you can't identify or cure just eat you away or drive you nuts with frustration!!! Thanks in advance, Newcastle Ant
