AR-25 "Function" with Y26SE
« on: 15 May 2021, 14:44:54 »

No problems but just asking what's really happening; when driving with cruise normal speed here in Finland which is 80kmh = 50Mph I have fourth gear on and TC locked, engine is running 2000rpm. When starting to climb a hill engine rpm goes to 3400 first for a couple of seconds and then drops suddenly to 2800 and after a hill when back to "flatland" rpm drops again to 2000. If this 3400 is gear No. three why it changes first there. I face this phenomenon specially when towing my 950kg mobile home as usually normal hills are so low that nothing happens, 2.6 V6 is strong enough to go up with fourth gear and TC locked.

Sounds like it's dropping a gear to pull up the hill.

Normal behaviour if you're towing.  ;)

Sure, this is clear but why not just opening the TC lock as it seems to be enough. Third gear is there only some seconds and then back to fourth without TC locked.

Presumably that's down to how the ecu is programmed.

Also, road speed and engine load play their part in the process.

Yes, if I designed the control system I would unlock TC first and shift down afterwards if needed, so step by step...

Latest software on the autobox ECU can help with this but in my experience, 2.6's with AR25's do do some odd gear changes / clinging onto lower gears etc. When I changed the AR25 to an AR35 in my old 2.6 it transformed the driveability.

OK, nice to hear. I think odd gear changes, too.

Three AR35 available but far from here...

That's what I guessed, in Finland Omegas seen rarely, so good change to find scrapped ones here, too.

also cruise control tends to maintain the set speed as quickly as possible hence sudden gearchanges that you wouldnt normally get if you were driving without cruise on.

OK, so I can go with my "reader" to gear box ecu and check which software version I have like VXL V6 mentioned. Hopefully someone knows which is the latest one.

TB knows :y
My 2003 2.6 behaved in exactly the same way - 50mph/80kph is right on the point where the change occurs so it is constantly swapping up & down. I found using sport mode less irritating because the change occurred sooner.

TB checked my gearbox software version and confirmed that I had the 'final' version :-(

Old thread but now remembered to take these photos from my 'modern' X40 XP screen, do I have the latest Soft Ware version?

V8 is the latest for 2.6/3.2

Sadly this lacks a lot of the refinements that the 2.5/3.0 got with the V9, and the 2.5/3.0 versions are incompatible with the 2.6/3.2
