Gtech. Had one and a handheld for a few years. Wife says they are brilliant. Mind you I have used the handheld one regularly (on the cars ), and they seem very good with a decent battery life.
Cheapest ordering them from Gtech themselves - they regularly have offers on and are usually cheaper than other 3rd party suppliers.

Not impressed with our Gtech upright. We only have two carpeted rooms, the rest are hard floors and rugs. It doesn't get DG fur out of the carpets, can't cope with the rugs and struggles to sweep anything off the floor, but it's light and Mother likes it

The hand held one is fine, but the upright doesn't vacuum particularly well. I use our old SEBO corded upright for the cars and anything more than dusting.

A few years back, I bought Mrs TB a Dyson V8 cordless.  She was genuinely pleased with it.

The battery has just gone a bit wank, and as (being an old model) another identical one was only just a smidgeon more than double the cost of an official battery, I've just bought her another.  Being the modern man, and all that


To raywilb, I do recommend the Dyson cordless ones, with the proviso that whilst they are great "daily" cleaners (we have 2 moggies that leave fluff all over the place all the time), the "spring clean" vacuuming is done with a mains powered upright (in our case, yet another Dyson).  The cost is a little silly though, unless you catch one on a decent offer.

Not really my dept ... but I quite like our upright GTech. It's generally just used upstairs so doesn't get a load of hammer.

The thing I see with most of the cordless 'hoovers' is that you're carrying the weighty end.

Not had a problem with our Gtech upright. Picks up well on carpet, hard surfaces, rugs and mats (sometimes you have to stand on one end of the mat depending the size to stop the suction lifting the mat). Picks up dog hair well, although it's beneficial in this regard to have the pet version (K9)
I suppose if you haven't got the correct tool for the job.....
Hair does get tangled in the 'bearing' (if you can call it that) at the end of the roller over time, which then reduces its effectiveness as the brush roller doesn't turn properly so it doesn't then pick up quite as well, but as with anything preventive maintenance is the key.....

I know you presume that I was being contrary for the sake of it, but honestly, we clearly have very different experiences of Gtech uprights.

Fundamentally, based on the performance of the one we have, I wouldn't buy one with my money.
