Why you must NEVER, NEVER buy ANYTHING from Dixons
« on: 24 October 2006, 19:25:48 »

Please tell everyone you know about this, for sometime now i wish the DSG (Dixons Store Group) would go bust, awful, awful company.

They own:

Currys
Currys.digital
Dixons
PC World
The Link

When working at my placement for my uni course, i had to order 60 usb cables for a project... i was amazed at the price comparison:

Belkin 3 Meter USB Extension Cable

eBuyer Price online: £1.94 http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/57706 (says for iMac but all USB cables are the same)

Dixons price online: £18.99!!  :o :o :o :o :o - Wait for it .... standard delivery is £9.99!!  :o :o

Do a search on the Dixons website for product: 157205 - http://www.dixons.co.uk - All DSG sites use sh!t sessions, so my link will expire...

So including delivery Dixons want £28.98 for 1 USB extension cable!!!

F*** the DSG group!  >:(

Yeah, they suck and have no interest in serving you.  What I don't understand is why there isn't anywhere else I can go to get electronics?!?  I mean Coventry isn't small, and Birmingham isn't far away.  Where are some decent electronics/computer stores?

www.expansys.co.uk usually has cheap USB cables.

Write to the MD of the group.
I did it some years ago and ended up with a nice apology and a £30 voucher.  :D

Just off on a slight tangent here folks on the subject of delivery charges SHOPPING CHANNELS GRRR!! send back tv (the name i give to bid up for obvious reasons) advertise the item for say £15 then add £7.99 p&p then add £1.50 for the phone call to order it result £24.49 for an Item that they describe "can be yours for 15 quid!" Should be banned for  misselling. RANT OVER.

The only one out of the DSG group I've had a good experience with is the Link when I bought a new mobile for son's Xmas present. Found the staff very knowledgeable and helpful :y As for the rest of the group, I wouldn't touch the thieving barstewards with a bargepole [smiley=thumbdown.gif]

most retail outlets are the same ... they don't make much money on the hardware - it's made on accessories, warranties and finance. I used to work for a computer retailer a few years ago - they sold printer cables at either £7, bought them in at under £1 each ... mail order is generally the best way to go for the best price, but then you have to wait (and pay) for delivery and then the same again if it goes wrong ...  ::)
