Changing RH exhaust manifold and gasket
Got it all apart, now reassembling. Have got on the manifold, and lower heat shield. I cannot get the upper heat shield into position; am obstructed by a water pipe, aircon pipes, and the cam cover. It came off easily enough. Is there a trick?

Is there a trick to unplugging central locking motors? It was easy before they put in door air bags. Now I try to grasp the connector locking levers, but I cannot get a thumb behind the inside lever because the air bag is in the way

Bought this car yesterday on e-bay to replace T367KHL Courtesy lights do not work. I pulled fuse 12 and the radio died, so that was not the fault. What else could it be?

Omega General Help / Exhaust manifold off; need advice please
« on: 26 August 2013, 20:33:17 »
X84GNB 2000 2.5 petrol manual estate
Have finally got manifold off - thanks to all for help and advice.
I thought manifold was cracked, Chris Gixer thought fault was blown gasket. Either way it was noisy and getting noisier. Pictures follow. I think Chris was right, but I have also found a crack underneath the manifold. It looks as though there was a blow at the top and back of the manifold/gasket. I have bought a good manifold off e-bay. Clearly I need a new head to manifold gasket and a manifold to downpipe gasket. I do not think the head is 'burned'. Should I clean it with steel wool to make sure? The studs came out with the nuts on them. Should I buy new studs and nuts? Have you any more advice for me? I have not done this job before on a V6.

Pictures follow. First two are of manifold and gasket showing where blowing; third shows crack

Omega General Help / Clutch noise getting worse
« on: 26 August 2013, 17:56:33 »
T367KHL 1999 2.0 petrol manual saloon
Since my last thread my son has begged for the spare car. leaving me to drive this noisy beast. The noise occurs as the clutch is disengaged or re-engaged, with engine running. It does not occur with clutch fully depressed. I got the car over the pit tonight, me in the pit, wife at the wheel depressing the clutch pedal. The noise certainly comes from the bell housing. I imagine it is the clutch thrust bearing, which AndyB tells me is no longer a carbon bush, but a roller bearing.

Looks to me like the clutch has to come apart to cure it. Car is  14 years old, 200K miles on clock, engine warning light on. I fear it has had it.

Cannot remove rear screw from top heat shield, looks like I must drop downpipe first then attack from below. Is it safe to just unbolt the downpipe and let it hang on the cat section, or should I remove it altogether?

Omega General Help / Removing coolant pipe 2.5 V6

Aiming to change RH exhaust manifold, following RobG and Haynes. Having uncoupled oil cooler pipes, and removed many hoses, Haynes says 'push oil pipes back', then 'slacken and remove the retaining bolts then remove from the engine'

The oil pipes do not push very far back. I get the impression there are two Torx screws holding the pipe to the head, but I cannot get at them, as the oil pipes are still in the way. Please advise.

Omega General Help / rubbing noise as clutch is disengaged
« on: 18 August 2013, 15:11:09 »
T367KHL 2 litre petrol manual 188914 miles on clock
As I depress the clutch pedal with engine running I hear a rubbing noise as the clutch disengages. While held fully disengaged there is no noise; while fully released there is no noise. With engine not running there is no noise. Any ideas?

X84GNB 2000 2,5 petrol manual

I am striving to change the RH exhaust manifold, following RobG and Haynes. I have to remove the oil pipes at the filter end. I have removed the paper filter, but the filter outer is still in the way. I feel it should unscrew, but it does not want to. How do I shift it?

Omega General Help / Do V6 aux belt tensioners vary?
« on: 05 August 2013, 08:47:55 »
X84GNB 2000 2.5 manual petrol estate
On changing my cam belt I had planned to replace the cracked cam belt cover with a spare I took off a scrapped 1999 3 litre. It fitted all right, but I could not get the auxiliary belt tensioner on. I replace the original cracked cam belt cover and the tensioner went on The cam belt covers looked the same. This puzzled me.

This morning I wonder, would the tensioner off the 3 litre have fitted? Do they differ?

Omega General Help / tensioning cam belt on a V6
« on: 04 August 2013, 12:42:31 »
X84GNB petrol 2.5 estate
Mr. Haynes says I should set the index mark on the tensioner plate 3-4mm above the mark on the backplate stop (with a picture). Mr. SKF. maker of the cam belt kit, tells me to align the two markers. I do what I am told. My instinct, given two lines, is to align them. It's probably unimportant. What to you guys do?
