Title: Variable Wiper Delay
Post by: Ken T on 16 October 2006, 18:16:42
Hi there,
I know that some of the pre-facelift omega's (elite) had a variable wiper delay. There are a number of these control stalks on Ebay at the moment.  Is it possible to fit one of these control stalks to a facelift ?. Do I need Tech 2 to enable it?

I believe you need the relay as well. I'm sure an expert will confirm...

Does you facelift not have rain sensitive wipers then?

Hi There,
Sorry I forgot, not all omega's are created equal!. Mine is a 2002 2.2 CD Auto. It doesn't appear to have rain sensitive wipers.
Cheers Ken T

I thought it was just the posh versions that had rain sensitive wipers.  Mine doesn't.   >:(

But for the delayed wipers, you do need the relay.  It may be possible to retro-fit it, but I doubt if the loom will have the engine bay connector.

You should have variable wiper delays, the little rolla switch thing on the wiper stalk, sets it between 8 & 1 seconds.

As for the rainsensing wipers, i think they need a sensor on the windscreen? - A friends pug 306 has it, and its got a big sensor just behind the mirror on the windscreen.

I haven't either  :'(

Interestingly, looking at the diagrams it looks very do able.

The variable interval stalk simply adds a variable resistor into the intermittent line to the wiper relay so the wire is already present.

So, by changing the stalk and possibly the relay you should be able to add it easily, the part number on my relay (Facelift saloon 2.5V6) is as follows (4th up from the bottom in the engine relay/ECU box)

90 450 169 Blue

Worth having a look to see what is fitted.

Following onto this is it possible to add the variable intermittent wipe to a 94M as I have the stalk but the additional connector is different.

Would I be right in thinking the wiring would need adjusting and a new relay fitted.

Cheers in advance for any responses.  :)

If the above is still true for the early models (I dont see why not) then you should again simply need the stalk and relay assuming you already have an intermittent setting on the wipers.

The current wiper stalk on the 94M doesn't have the intermittent but shall take another look maybe able to retrofit, shall also check to see if the relay is similar to mine in the 97P omega.

Might be lucky with regards the relay.

Just checked the relay in the 98 estate....its the same part code and colour as my 2000 facelift.

Have now checked the early, late and 2004 schematics and they all sudgest that it will work.

I suspect you will find an unused pin in the relay holder and the wiper stalk with the wire there (its the sort of connection that is likely to be standard fit in the loom)

I am not sure if it would be standard as I have tried just fitting the talk before and the connector on the extra piece of loom on the stalk is different. May need cut/splice to fit.

Could it be possible there be a spare piece of loom with a different connector somewher behind there.

Don't they all have variable wipers then?, My GLS has got them :)

Seems to be age dependent, they are not on very early cars or the very late ones (which had rain sensitive wipers as an option)

This is what I thought would you say it would be possible to fit the wiper stalk with the roller on into a 94M cd only be good to have it. I have the stalk alreadyh so I guess it would be a case of adjusting thw wiring somehow.

It suprises me to.

I have just purchased a facelift CDX and with all the gismos on it I was gobsmacked to find the variable intermitant wipe I have on my old prefacelift GLS was no were to be found. :'(

I will read my book again, but I thought the rain sensors were only on the Elite.
