TB's Gearbox
« on: 16 May 2007, 19:20:00 »

Just a thought TB and any others who may read this. I don't know what the probs are with the gearbox but if it has been slowly locking up over a period of time and taking more power to make it work could this be a pointer to the overheat problem? As you have said before while standing the temp has been fine, only when driven has the temp gone up! If the box was struggling and making the engine work harder..................................could it be????

Something that had passed through my mind...    ...however, I reckon for it to be enough to overheat engine, you would feel the drag...

But they are water cooled, are they not? if so is it not possible that the gearbox oil is getting damn hot and in turn....... :-/

The technical explaination for the gearbox is "it's shagged" methinks, though not unexpected.

As Mrs TheBoy says, waiting for the autobox to fail on an Omega TD is a bit like waiting for the head gasket to fail on a K series.  You know it will happen, it's just when...

Just made me think your cooling probs may be down to the box, many years ago i had a 2.8i giha x grandad and on the way to the wye valley the temp went up, shortly followed by lots of smoke from the auto box and loss of drive.......................The end :(

Well, the only way that will move under its own steam again is with a new box, so we shall see....   ....possibly...
