I know, I'm taking a fair bit of flack for my choice of forbayfor, but it fits the bill for a price that I can afford without getting into debt over. Remember I need something less than five years old with less than 150k on it and I need to be able to tow a fairly large car with it, so it's not like I'm spoiled for choice, and I didn't fancy any of the Korean alternatives and I'm not alowed a pick up, so Mitsubishi MentalAnimals with roll bars and truckman tops aren't allowed either otherwise I'd've had one of them.

I also know that it's not necessarily the best guage of the vehicle, but all the on-line reviews I've read don't seem to make ownership of one any more daunting than owning an Omega.

Gonna need a box of Kleenex when my Meega goes though!!

It's for sale Jock, but it's already spoken for, sorry. I did notice you were looking for something like my car but I did promise the buyer first refusal and he didn't refuse.

The Frontera is very under rated as a 4x4 and has excellent off road capability, murders a Disco on the muddy stuff....the first 18 months of production could be trouble some but, following this they were pretty bomb proof. Plus the 97/98 onwards models are basicaly the Isuzu trooper with a different body work on it with ladder chassis 2.8Td, proper V6 etc......

Not sure I'd agree with that. The Discovery is one of the best of the 'luxury' offroaders. Not that many do see offroad of course.

Personally, never got on with Frontera as a road car. Always seemed a bit of a tank...

Well, I'm hopefully going to look at one next Fiday in Loughborough.

It's a manual and it's white, but it's low mileage, 54 plate and cheap.

fingers crossed she doesn't sell it in the meantime.

Unless someone in that neck of hte woods wants to test drive it for me!!  :exclamation

Too right Martin! You've no idea how much of a headache this has been for me recently!!

The thing is, even though the car allowance isn't particularly generous, I could run two cars off it if they weren't so anal about the age restriction.

I even tried to get out of the allowance scheme but they wouldn't allow it.

To make matters worse, I did actually think about taking a company car. We liked the S-Max actually, a tremendous little car it is, but under the company scheme it would cost me about £400 a month in lost allowance payments and buy up penalties. Granted it's insured, road taxed and maintained into the bargain, but I don't agree with new cars at all.

A Discovery is good off road - I have been a passenger and I was surprised we got through.
