    If I only knew how to do the links for letting the ABS "blue light" fanatic James W have a look. He has the Omega estate police replica. I used to know where an Austin westminster A110 ex police car was. I had tentativly attempted to get hold of it for banger racing. The police spec versions of this car had a triple carb set up on them.

It certainly has taken me back in time

The first police car I "saw" was the one at the start of "No Hiding Place" on my parents TV in about 1959/60.  I wasn't certain about what make or model of car it was, so I have reminded myself; it looks as though it was a Wolsley, but in my mind I had an Austin Westminster.

Back to the OP's link; it is just a fabulous reminder of all those cars we used to see.  The Jaguar 4.2 (??) always seems like the classic to me.  My father once saw numerous ones of those surround a driver in South London.  He said they came from everywhere, and very fast!

Not only MG soft tops,but also the Daimler SP250 always had to be driven roof down.Doors on "A"series cars had a tendency to fly open when cornering due to the glassfibre body flexing!

Sadly, I do, Wolesley 6/80, and the 4 cylinder Pathfinder, lovely looking cars. A friend had a beautiful Mk7 Jag when the M1 opened, so we gave it some on the first stretch, no speed limits then, We got it over a ton, and then chickened out, as erks in the RAF the fuel gauge went down too quickly for our meagre pay packets, about £10 a week!   Although petrol was only about 2s/6d a gallon. 12½p to you.

James Waddington and I are both members of another police vehicle club, PVEC.
Some Jan Sandwich markings still exist, The Met Police and Leicestershire. Although The Met are now moving away and will be using Battenburg from now on.

In the new year I'll be in one of my preserved police Omega's at various shows. May 2013 at Brooklands museum will see the annual Emergency Services Day...there'll be everything from early police vehicles up to brand new...it's always worth a look

Sadly, I do, Wolesley 6/80, and the 4 cylinder Pathfinder, lovely looking cars. Ill always remember the Pathfinder because it had the gear lever down by your right leg, just by the door, quite difficult to get used to for a while.

An ex-boyfriends father was taking one of those apart in 1965, and I learnt a lot about the inner workings of a Wolsley, or any, engine!

Judging by the opening shots of the TV programme, it obviously did not have good road handling!  See that rear swing out!!

Well of course the Morris Minor came from the same stable of British designs of the time, with Morris, Austin, Riley and Wolsley cars all having a family resemblance, especially so after it all became the British Motor Corporation (BMC) in 1952.

I can remember when, outside the local police station, the police officers used to clean an polish them, can't ever remember seeing a dirty one.

They used to take a pride in keeping the cars looking pristine.
