Thanks to Mr Gixer for fitting my wishbones and rear bushes in the freezing cold while I was sitting in front of the heater sipping the tea Mrs Gixer had made me. Thanks to Mrs Gixer for the tea and offering me food 

Initial impressions of the rear bushes are good, much less flex and body roll especially noticable in fast corners and big roundabouts. Slight downside I would say is the changes in road surfaces is more noticable and door pins rattles and other vibrations in cabin bit more noticable (for me anyway, because I never have the radio on) due to the slightly stiffer ride but a good compromise. Gets a  from me. 

Looking forward to WIM and getting new tyres next week, but not looking forward to receiving the bank statement

Good stuff SMD, tighter handling on an Elite is always a good thing.
Ride on those should show more with poly.

Fitted mine too. Not actually driven it any worthwhile distance yet, will report later.

Only picked mine up from TB on Friday. 

They will probably sit in my garage until the warmer weather, by which time I would have forgotten all about them.

Had another play today.

As Smd says really.

Benefits, tighter rear end, less flap at the rear over broken surfaces, MUCH more communicative and connected in fast corners. Less body roll.

Trade off is slightly harsher feel with high frequency small bumps slightly more evident.

All he said noticed on the way home ... slightly disconcerting over a fairly rough bit of road I travel regularly (they start mending it this weekend .. 16 weeks of shit about to happen at J16 M4 - avoid it !!) as they definitely transmit more of the road surface imperfections into the car, but its just a matter of getting used to it.

Add the fact that Chris helped me sort the steering feel out to the "tighter" back end and the handling has certainly improved.

Two interesting things will be .... 1) what SWTSMBO thinks of the ride  2) What difference it will make when towing ... both to be found out tomorrow evening

Possibly. Only one way to tell.

At half hour a side it's worth a play, just to see. Even if its just to discount the idea.

Would suspect that will create more of a problem given that the OE pad has significantly less substance to it the arm will also the work its way off the bush...

Yes that was the issue with Carlton bushes. But we'll see how these go.

Fitted the rubber pads back on. Seemed ok, slight harshness gone, but the body roll returned, which is really off putting in turns.

Will check tomorrow it they have worked out, but I'd be surprised. It still drive straight enough.

I needed OSR track rod adjusting slightly. As I do every year. WIM and I decided this was just normal movement on my car, and unrelated to the bush.

Not fitted mine yet, so, are people 'generally' happy with the poly doughnuts results..................or...........do you wish you'd left well alone?

I can honestly say that I'm pleased with the poly dounuts. Initially the rear felt a bit crashy and the existing rattles and vibrations were exaggerated due to the polys. But now I think I have found the source of the rattle at the back (but another has appeared  ) and its reasonably quiet in the cabin. It can feel a bit rough over bad roads but thats a given I suppose.

Over all, the handling is much improved. Less roll. No slop in the rear axle over bumps. Cornering the rear is more communicative/connected and gives confidence.

Cost is slight harshness in high frequency vibration.

So all as expected with poly really.


(I have still to confirm if leaving the top rubber pad fitted is a viable solution to the minor vibration, suspect not)

But, as has been said and you freely admit, your requirements are not demanding on the chassis so I agree that poly's probably aren't needed for you

As discussed when Tunnie needed front wishbones really, and why I bought his front polys off him. (Plus he was tight arse and wanted the use out of the rubber bushes first )

I am happy with the improvements to both of mine. TBE's were way past their best (original) so improvement is to be expected, but the Bullet's were only a couple of years old, so were in great condition.

That's where the thinking is all wrong the polys don't wear out, so never need replacing, which given how quickly the rubber bushes can fail can only save money and labour

That's from someone who has removed the brand new front bushes from two sets of wishbones prior to fitting

As to the rear subframe bushes, I would fit poly to any further Omega, and probably any other RWD car that I might own

I thought I'd posted this already ... but if not I apologise ....

1) SWTSMBO did not notice any difference until asked .. after a short while considering the matter said .. "maybe you can feel the road a bit more . but it's hardly noticeable" 

2) Towing .. it was only 15 odd miles each way, so not really a decent test. Certainly not at all "worse" in any respect. It did seem a tad more "stable" in a straight line, but that could be because we sorted the steering out ...  Obviously with the tin tent on the back I don't chuck it about so body roll is not really comparable. Sorry its a bit of a nebby response .. but I think the answer is "not a lot of difference" TBH .. but a decent tow including some motorway stuff might be more informative.

They may be even less noticeable when towing as the suspension can't rebound as much.
