General Car Chat / rattle and roll
« on: 22 November 2011, 10:06:42 »
the gear box rattle
couple of questions anyone that remebers newent and the knock on start up etc i ve put the two bolts in that were missing that go through the gearbox into the engine (i think) since then theres a rattle from the gearbox sounds like tappets
http://s1086.photobucket.com/albums/j449/paullovejoy/?action=view¤t=001.mp4
going to take the bolts out too see if it stops as the car drove perfect except for the clonkinging noise at start up
I should add car has not been used since newent
bit worried about driving the car 250 to 300 miles to Daz with the tapping noise any suggestions ie car transporter etc are they loads of money or is there any alternatives was thinking AA but i would have to go with car and have a good excuse why they should take it there

following on from comments in albs posth buyer/seller feedback in order to sell or reply to any post within car sales and parts you have to have 250 posts
why is it that you can post an item for sale in the test zone with below this amount of posts and then get it moved to sales by the moderator

Omega General Help / knocking sound on start up please help
« on: 20 July 2011, 21:46:43 »
Hi everyone could do with some advice please.
just brought home an omega 2.6 auto estate on a 52 plate 74k........The engine knocks on start up sounds like its from the top of the engine but I cant be sure, on the way home which was a 300mile trip car seemed to run great pulled well smooth gear changes etc about 250 miles into the journey i got some open road so decided to see how well it did pull only got up to 90ish and the omissions light came on and car I assume went into limp mode..pulled over at next services and the engine sounded like a bucket of spanner being shaken as it was slowing down ..turned off engine left for 5 minutes and started up emmission light went out but still got knocking noise from engine and when reved hard sounded like a rattling chain i wasnt far from home and the car seemed to drive ok any advice would be appreciated

ok hes not 6ft 6 in a black mask cape etc more like 5ft 10 stocky tracky bottoms and pink sandles (yes pink) and a tool for everything
After lots of recomendations by forum members i thought i would make the 500 mile round trip and get Daz to do the work need on my omega a lot of miles and long day but not a massive bill with lots of extras and charges at the end of it
Daz carried out a complete belt replacement full service overhauld rear brakes and changed the starter motor plus lots of other bits that i am sure he did not charge for
Absolute pleasure spending the day with him excellent advice and chat and i learnt quite a bit about the car even though i got sent to the back seat to have a kip as i kept falling asleep.
The car is now awsome it flies silky smooth plus an extra 3-4 mpg when i can keep the speed down which is hard now as the car is so responsive
you may think i must be nuts to travel 500 miles but its was worth every mile watching parts removed cleaned greased and put back, nothing was too much trouble and the results speak for themeselves excellent
genuine honest bloke thanks Daz
