I am more intrigued by the fact that it looks like an ST engine, not the RS.

Oil filter housing diaphragm is common on the 2.5 engine, causes air and boost leaks.

One way to double-check is to remove the dipstick and listen for air leaks into the crankcase area

Omega General Help / Re: Crank seal.
« on: 27 April 2021, 05:14:53 »
Removing the seal is easy, getting a good new seal that fits right and goes on without leaking is another matter altogether on the X20XEV.

Try to get a sleeve to slide the seal over the crank as otherwise the seal spring can pop off the back of the seal. I used an old water bottle cut down

Update....

Ordered a couple of rear door motors from Omegaspares and they arrived a couple of weeks ago.

Finally got round to changing the OSR one last week and so far it is all working properly, every time.

It makes me wonder if that one is the failing one (being the most common one) and it is too slow to move, therefore using too much power and causing other random ones not to latch in time? The unlock and re-locking simply allows it to finish making the movement. The removed one is free to move, like the replacements.

What makes me think this is that even the noise of the fuel flap motor has gone (it would sometimes squeal as it locked, normally signalling that something was not locked).

Omega General Help / Re: Performance air filter
« on: 11 April 2021, 15:47:20 »
People never do proper research.

I remember years ago when they did the test on air filters in the Escort Cosworth. They tried standard filter, panel filter and cone filter.

Below 400bhp, the best one was the panel filter in the standard air box. This was all on a car with almost twice the original power.

I run K&N filters in some of my cars as it works out cheaper to clean and re-oil than to change all the time. Anything with a MAF stays on original filters

Again, as said earlier, over-oiled filters with a hot at MAF will become expensive.

, or they should be shot!  ;)

... in front of their families?  ::) ::)

How about shot by their families, made to dig out the bullet, re-build (or whatever you do to refill them) and use on the next person?

If anyone refuses, shoot them first by a designated official, saving the bullet of course.

Omega General Help / Re: Wing indicator lens removal

Hmmm :-\ I am surprised that GM bothered. Does the Vectra B use the same ones?

They are specific to the Omega in the Vauxhall range.

The online catalogue lists them as the same both sides but I know that when I fitted mine, the right hand side clipped in, the left side would not fit in the aperture where it clips in.

VX do list different production numbers as well so would need to check on the proper EPC disk

mine are ?
the lamp profile and the bulb insert slopes backwards. yes they will fit in each side but not correctly.

I had exactly the same problem when I got some a couple of years ago, ended up carefully cutting the lens off and sticking it round the other way. Same thing, seller ignored attempts to sort it out.

General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?

Ordered a new pair of bonnet struts for the Range Rover , noticed when checking the washer fluid that the bonnet was descending slowly..

Was the bonnet closing or the suspension collapsing??

Car does not mist up anymore so hoping/guessing leaks all gone.

Am thinking microswitches and possibly osr door lock/motor as that seems the most common.

Just hoping for some better ideas before I go ripping it all to pieces in April

Omega General Help / Random locking issue
« on: 13 March 2021, 11:08:44 »
Have noticed recently that when locking the car with the remote, not always do all the door lock. There will be a random one or 2 that stays unlocked.

Example would be working fine, then lock the car and all but the drivers rear locks. Next time, might be both drivers doors. Then might work for a few times and then passenger rear door (example).

If you press the lock button again to deadlock, they lock. If you unlock and try again, they lock fine. Always unlock fine.

You can tell if one has not locked by the sound. When not working properly, you get like a slurping sound, but a resounding clunk when they all work if that makes sense.

Other thing is that the alarm horn was removed years ago but have put another horn on and still makes no noise, just flashes lights. Even tried a proper car horn with no sound, related?

Power Sounder was binned in 2015 so that gone.

Part of me thinks CDL unit? Have not done a Tech 2 yet but suspect will not show anything.

Car has been used almost daily during last year as well so not due to being left parked up either.

Thoughts?

No, I had this a couple of years ago, ordered with eBay, delivered in Amazon box.

Apparently the sellers have accounts on both media forums and ship from whichever is likely to be quickest (by that read cheapest for the seller).

My argument is that if I wanted to order from Amazon, I would have.

Does make you think though that the seller does not have it on eBay but then orders themselves via Amazon and ships direct to you

Omega General Help / Re: Camber before toe?
« on: 09 March 2021, 15:49:11 »
He is correct, caster, camber, toe.

A small movement in camber can make a big difference in toe.

Remove the track rod end and the adjusters, clean, grease and replace back as best as possible (h less knackered, then replace) and then get it done

For reference, I have been using the moly brake pad grease we use in work on mine, is waterproof and does not wash off ANYTHING, including skin (you have been warned)

They've to get people back into the pubs somehow :-\
What's a pub ?

The old derelict building at the end of the road with a For Sale sign and planing permission for 12 flats

Lot of E90 range BMW cats going missing in the last couple of weeks.

Problem is that a new one is in excess of £2k
