Title: Recommended speakers for rear doors
Post by: Migalot on 08 August 2021, 20:25:25
One of my rear door speakers buzzes on bass tones, so I guess it's time for a replacement. I'm not a huge audiophile, but obviously want to replace these OEM speakers as they nearing the end of their life.

Question is: Can anyone recommend a particular set of speakers that are reasonable, in terms of audio quality, price and, lastly, ease of fitment.

Thanks in advance!

Does your car have Bose or not?

I've got Pioneers all round and they work well. Not too bad a price  about 35 quid per pair last time I loomed.

I'm sure Pioneer etc do a set that is car specific - ie. all of the speakers required, if you just replace a couple of speakers I think it may become unbalanced but I guess it all depends how much you want to spend.  :y

Thanks for that. I'll look into Pioneer deals.

Did you have to remove door cards entirely to replace them?  ???

That's the only way to reuse the door cards after removing the speakers :D

Yup. I did all four as part of a bigger rebuild, so the doorcards were already off.

Easy enough to do and worth the effort. :y

Apart from electrically failing the speakers can get rust/ metal dust between the magnet and the coil and the foam surround tearing/ perishing resulting in the aforementioned gritty sound and vibration.if it's only a small amount of damage to the foam surround it will repair with general silicone.otherwise replacement is the only option. Can be got at without removing the door card .it just pivots out at the bottom enough for access.if you end up replacing it you "idealy " need a matching pair or a good original.

If you're replacing speakers, how about popping an amp in there somewhere?

Even a subwoofer if you're 9 years old like me...

Thanks, but I'm not really an audiophile, but just want rid of the bass buzz....and I'm 10 years old.  :P  ;)

Besides which, car electrics are way beyond my competence level. ;) ;D

I initially bought 6x9 Pioneers and put in matching boxes I bought for cheap. Placement is on rear shelf fit exactly behind rear headrest. Sound imaging is far better with speakers high rear as opposed to low in the rear doors...
Current mod is an actual wooden box I built to fit exactly between headrests and rear sun screen. If you visit Israel I will give for free you the 6x9 boxes I initially bought... 8)

Focal speakers would improve the sound massively but would really need a amp fitting  :y

If not then Alpine do a OEM replacement which would give a nice little upgrade for not much money  :y
