Horn relay wire colours

The restoration is in progress. Looking to fit siren and tap into the horn relay wiring as instructed by the, er, instructions.

Before I let all of the smoke out of the wires... Horn relay terminals are as follows.

85 - brown and white
86 - red
87 - brown
30 - brown and white.

Standard horn relay, green 4 pin. Shows 85-86 as the trigger, so far so normal. Does that make the brown/white the ground?

Then shows 87 open, 30 closed, which I hope means 87 is live in, and 30 is to the horns?

At the moment I have everything apart so it's not going to be on fire yet... Just want to check before I start connecting!

Brown is the feed to the horn.

It goes 12v red - relay - brown - horn - ground (horn bolt).

The brown white are the power and return to the horn switch.

Do you have the siren wiring diagram? There's one stuck to the Whelen amp but the official instructions are free to download as a pdf :y

I am a child.
When I first fitted it, the Omega was still a Taxi, so I had the Airhorn only wired in to sound via the factory horn. The delay in the relay meant that you got a the car horn if you blipped the horn button, but if you held it more than a second you got the full 100 Watts 8)

When it came to the Plod gubbins going in completely, the horn ring controlled the siren cycle once the noise button was pressed on the controller... Basically you press Siren/999 on the controller and the siren switches on. You then use the horn ring short press to cycle the siren tones or a quick double tap to silence it. Doing this leaves it active so if you press the horn again it will start up again.

Although you probably know that from work ;D

I modified the wiring to the alarm switch (plod cars have a blank fitted here) and used that for the Airhorn. This only works when the siren is switched on/armed on the controller.

If you wanted to be really fancy, you could wire it so main beam would cause the siren to kick on with the headlight flasher relay :D

I think I've got the wiring 90pc there. Waiting for a hole saw to arrive so I can make the switch panel complete.

Quite proud of myself doing crimping in tight spots! :y

I soldered all mine :-[

The control boards I acquired had a couple of multi pin plugs/sockets so was able to build the board and run the car wiring to the plugs. Made the installation straightforward from a circuit by circuit after the board was built up on the kitchen table :y

I made a lovely little plug up for the Vascar head, using my best soldering skills, sitting at my table in oerfect comfort. Suffice to say, I stuck the iron into my thumb and filled the kitchen with the aroma of roast pork... And language that would pink the cheeks of a longshoreman...

Sounds like you're making good progress with it  :y

It's quite satisfying when you press a switch and it works without releasing smoke everywhere...
