Way way too big that's why. and if you reduce it to 75px you won't see anything other than a blur  :(

P.S you don't want Img tags in the avatar URL  ;)

Quite right.  :y  It was the actual tag signs that I was referring to, so it should start like =http://s894.photobucket.com  :y

Nope. It should start "http://www....... "   :y

Are you sure that a derv purchase is wise? ::)

I'm not sure if it will be derv tbh. But I need something that will crack 35mpg. And I genuinely prefer diesel to small (<2L) wheezy naturally aspirated petrols. Particularly as I favour 2 pedals over 3.

What the BMW did make me realise is that day to day performance isn't really important. Hence my idea to split.

I'm tempted by another Saab 9-5 aero, but that would have to be a manual :/

I know where there's one looking for a new home  ::) Needs a new donor engine and gearbox mind. Which I have a source for. Just not the time, money or inclination currently  ;D

Some other annoyances they need to tug people over for:

Driving too slowly - yes!
Driving with interior light on (believe this is illegal)
Tailgating
Owning a Citreon Cactus!

The new 5 series looks nice...

They do. I had thought about that, but for my budget it'd be a 2.0d bones-of-yer-ar$e spec. And the 3 series doesn't appeal.

The world of exciting motoring options is opening up for you once again. :y

Indeed so. However a potential new job and 25-30k miles/yr closes those options again! Were it to come off I would have to go for a sensible daily and a weekend toy.

Until matters resolve, I shall stay in the trusty Desmond for a little while.

Are you sure that a derv purchase is wise? ::)

Yeh cos the fact it's diesel is the main reason not to buy a new BM  ::)

Have you checked the integrity of the engine block earth?

Try unplugging MAF, Coolant temp sensor, air temp sensor and see if that makes a difference. In the absence of a signal the ECU should substitute a "safe" guess-timate value.

Does this engine have idle air control or an electronic throttle body?

Just be very careful with the coil. It produces quite enough voltage & current to be lethal.

Now then. I'm no expert on Halfords store policy... but I think he might have invalidated his lifetime warranty  :D

I don't remember it being that problematic when I did mine. Getting the stat housing to let go of the tube was the only fight I remember.  :-\

You have to wonder why they felt it necessary to use that stupid tube in the first place. Perhaps there's a good reason.

A few problems with led to the overall issue

1) Previous mechanic had put tippex marks in very odd places on the crank and cam sprockets, which I think the OP may have confused with the actual, proper marks - which, were not highlighted and harder to spot.

2) Water pump "lug" was not sat in the cut out of the rear metallic timing cover, causing an overall loss of tension on the belt setup.

Once crank set to 90deg ATDC and cams locked, pump correct and belt popped back on, she runs like a goodun with a healthy 200+psi per cylinder :y

I forgot how nice the 4 pot was to work on :)

My personal opinion is fair play to the OP for having a crack at it... :y

You lucky bar steward  :D That's not bad going for an old car :)
