What is the hidden word that will also join to the end of the first word, and start of the second word, to make two new words?

Fish - and seafood generally - was always regarded as brainfood in my early years in the East End.
Most pubs had a whelk and cockle stall outside them for dad to buy the Sunday tea on his way back from the pub!  :y ;D
