Title: Removing final drive front hanger (damping unit)

Access to the diff front hanger bolt is poor owing to the floor curving down just beyond it. There is no room for a socket, so I had to use a ring spanner. Bolt was very tight and hard to remove. I have no idea how to torque it back up to 100Nm, then tighten it 75/15. Please advise.

Do it up as tight as you can, then give the spanner a whack with a hammer.

You can extend the spanner with another ring spanner  :y

The bolt that goes into the diff, or into the floor?

If the one going into the diff, then use a small jack to alter the angle the diff is sitting at and you'll get straight onto it.

The bolt that goes ito the floor. Access is poor, could not get a socket on it, eventually got it out with a ring spanner on it, handle extended with a pipe.

Crow foot spanner / wrench head? Mine are open jaw but I believe that ring types are available as well. That will attach to a torque wrench or a breaker bar,

Good thinking! Yes, I have Crow's foot spanners, open jaw type, including 18 and 19mm. They have a 3/8" square drive socket below the head, and I have a 3/8" torque wrench. The calibration of the torque wrench is a bit odd, in inch pounds and metre kilograms, but I can cope with that. Haynes gives the torque as 90Nm or 66lb.ft. 66 lb.ft must be 66 x 12 lb.ins., or 792 lb.inches. The torque wrench goes up to 960 inch pounds, so I am there. It's only 10" long, but my aforementioned 2' steel pipe will give all the leverage I need.
I see in my new Machine Mart catalogue p.341 they list a '12 piece 3/8" square drive box end metric flexible head socket wrench set', which sounds like your crow's foot socket set. It is not clear to me how I would apply torque to it, but no matter I can do the job tomorrow with my crow's foot spanner. Thanks or your tip.

90 nm isn't groundbreakingly tight... Less than the wheel bolts ;)
