If looking at an early V8 XJ[1997-2000/1]Then check to make sure the timing chains/tensioners have been upgraded to the 4.2 litre spec and for extra piece of mind[although if it's survived this long it should be o.k]have a blow by test done on it to make sure engine is still in fine fettle. The early engines had nicasil lined cylinders which were badly affected by the high sulphur fuel sold then, especially if used for short runs. These problems affected all engine capacities. The S-type Jag was based on a Lincoln chassis.

LPG conversion on an Omega is feasible, for a start, and the engine will survive. :y
