Wipers - parking position
« on: 04 August 2013, 15:26:15 »

Wipers on the '03 Estate not self parking in correct position - now parking about a 1/3rd of the way up the screen.
Seem to remember to fix you need to align two arrows and retighten a locknut - is this roughly correct?
Seem to remember pics as well (Rob) ;)

Anyone done this - would appreciate clarification on correct procedure (no issues in removing wipers and scuttle)

Thanks

Loosen the nut to motor spindle, lever the arm off the splines slightly to loosen.

Then you can re position the wipers in the park/lowest position. Do it back up, job done.

(With practice it can be done scuttle in place but its very fiddly)

If not, wipers and scuttle off, and align motor arm with arrows on casting as you say.

Or something along those lines.

With scuttle off, how easy is it to do with wiper motor/linkage in place?

Easier. Iirc. Its been a while. Open ended spanner.

If scuttle is off, then wipers must also be off, therefor the marks are your only guide.

( tbh scuttle on is very awkward unless you've recently been in there to familiarise yourself . But you might save yourself some time....you might also curse me for talking 'dangle berries' and take the scuttle off anyway ;D )

Its doable though. :)

Update - all fixed.  Job made easy thanks to Robs howto (Pics).  Scuttle off, pop off link arm, realign arm and firmly tighten 13mm nut, which was slightly loose.  No need to remove wiper assembly - with link arm off plenty of room for a 13mm ring spanner.  Push link arm back on till it clicks, scuttle back on.  Worse part of job in terms of time - refitting the little plastic clips top of scuttle to just under windscreen - bloody fiddly unless you have tiny, thin fingers.  All working fine again now :y
