I have this weird issue sometimes where I try to start the car but it just turns over, maybe coughs a few times. Then I can stop starting and try again and it starts instantly every time. It doesn't seem to matter how long the first start is, it always starts on the second try.

What might cause this? No fault codes or anything that obvious.

Maybe a faulty fuel pressure regulator, causing it to loose rail fuel pressure over night? Old spark plugs? This starting problem usually has something to do with spark or fuel. Its hard to be more specific than this.

I had a similar problem on my 3.2. The cure was to replace the battery.

It doesnt matter if its warm or cold, I think it even starts better after a night and this usually happens during usage.

Swapping the coil pack later today as I got stuttering when driving aswell, had oil in two spark plug holes, like full of it.. maybe it'll fix this too.

I had the usual start up from cold nonsense when I turned the key and let go before it fired. only for it to be a pig to start until I left it for however long to settle down again. needless to say it made short work of the battery..

Check for leaking injectors. Most fuel injection engines have an flood clear procedure. Omega is accelerator through the floorboards, and crank. It shouldn't fire, as the injectors are switched off, but the sparks are on.

I swapped the coil pack + spark plug wires from my spare car for the driver side that had the leak and zero problems so far, all stuttering seems gone. Havent had any start problems yet atleast.

Yeah the occasional start issues are still there it seems.

My car was having no start issues. I put a new fuel filter on and the improvement is remarkable. Just a thought.

Change the camcover gaskets on the affected side, actually do both sides for the extra labour not involved, before you kill another pair of leads

Yeah I plan to, I was just really out of time and had to be on the road so couldnt finish the other side, had to do the wiring for the round coilpack there so took a bit longer to do it so it lasts longer than 100km.
It is really fast to do it anyway once you have done it a few times heh.
