lol first job will be to check the cambelt is still in place!!! far as i know though it has been sat in a garage so  no reason for the belt to let go?

Chain setup on these.

No compression (on all cylinders....check, if its just one it could be a sticky valve) means chain issue....so head off and new chain setup.

Not actualy that difficult to do, question will be how many valves are bent.

I have to say, its mega rare to get trouble with these mechanicaly

You need to look and see.....if down on compression on more than one or maybe two cylinders then I would say chain (so its probably never seen an oil change)

If its one or two the stuck valves.....and we have a little trick that often sorts those out

If it is, the method I have had huge success with is to bung a load of forte in the tank...start it with some throttle (take the large breather off to get round the drive by wire if you struggle)

Get some revs on it and then dunk the engine end of the small breather in a bottle of forte, as it starts to die, lift it out again....repeat until at least half has gone.

The amount of shite that exits the rear is a sight to see but, it has a very high success rate at freeing stuck valves as it dislodges the crudd

well after a couple of hours poncing around i decided we were flogging a dead horse trying to get it to run!!
all valves were moving up and down no problem, it had sparks and the camshafts were ok as was the chain and the timing!!!

want to take a guess what it is now? by the way it was parked in the garage for a reason!!! as we found out!! and the total mileage on this year 2000 car is 67,000kilometers around 50 thousand miles!  ::)

yeah petrol was stale but!!! tore the cylinder head off to find two of the pistons had holes in them!! both the middle pots had chunks missing on the outside edge nearest the inlet side,
you could actually see the top compression ring shining at you when i cleaned off the cack, so now i got to put 2 pistons in and rebuild the entire thing!!
Mark wouod it be worth replacing the guides and chain? bearing in mind the low miles?

your call, sub 100 quid for the full kit, may well be ok.

But whats caused the failure?
