Waiting for one of those 2

Ended up using wire to replace the track and it works without the possible cap

It looks the same as the one just below on what appears to be the aerial (square spiral type track) so would guess it's a cap as well - maybe used as a filter in the case of the aerial.

Why not? - it gets picked up on RF at the correct channel

I expected it not to work but was surprised it did

Why not? - it gets picked up on RF at the correct channel

5 years as a hobby, 4 years full time at Uni.....then you are ready to learn it (you dont learn the real stuff till you leave!)

11 years later.....and I can design my own stuff well!

Does look like a cap to me too, but could it also be a resistor? (Or do they normaly have numbers on them?)

You will probably find it will work without it anyways!

Bit like on computer hard drives, often diodes fail (shorted) and you can remove them and continue to use the hard drive again to recover files etc... Wouldn’t use the drive again for anything important though without resoldering another diode in place, even the I would be sceptical!

Oh, believe me, I know loads of people who's job has been programming for more than 10yrs, but I wouldn't call them a 'programmer' (sorry, they are called developers now I believe)

Looks like a decoupling cap to me as well - by the looks of the spiral track below it (and assuming the PTH it connects to goes to the cap in question) then it may well be for tuning the range/SNR of the receiver circuit?

BEng in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, 3 years PCB design, 3 years electrical/electronic service on AC & DC drives - now industrial control software engineer before you ask my credentials..

Which is no surprise as its a decoupling cap......obvious as one end is connected to the star 0V battery connection and the other end is in parralel with what looks to be a tant
