bba reman top of the list via google for abs ecu recon.

Check the hbv is not wet or showing residue for the coolent leak. If not your into the v of the engine for oil cooler cover plate, stat housing, or coolent bridge. It you still cant find the leak then try the metal coolent pipe at the back of the block  above the bell housing or core plugs in cylinder head around the back by dis pac.

No personal experience of the heater issue but would suggest checking the vacume pipes in engine bay. Esp the elbow on top of the hbv itself as this operates the heater vents i beleive. Guide in maintenance section for vac pipes.

i changed the HBV about three years ago...... surely it would last longer then that?

When my ABS ECU on the old car played up it was almost predictably intermittent, would work fine from cold for about 30-40 minutes then fail for about 20 minutes then work ok from then on. If you then stopped and switched off for any reason ... on restart it would not work for about 2 hours when it would suddenly start to work ok again.

BBA-Reman sorted it on a 5 day turn around for £130 .. but this was a couple of years ago .. :)

Yes, they can be intermittent

I have looked at a number of failed units now and they have ALL failed in the same way!

The units are constructed as two separate section.

At the connector block end is the power side with the two main relays and a number of diodes.

At the back of the actuator coils (12 on V6 and TC variants, 8 on 4 pots and non TC variants) is a hybrid circuit board with a number of components and two 'glob and gloop' IC's.

This hybrid is wired to the main contacts in the plastic block using standard IC bond wires.

What happens is that there appears to be a main feed to the hybrid which has two bond wires to it.....these wires break at the point where they make contact with the main contact with the main block.

I am looking at options for repair of this for those with a steady hand.

Given the above, you can imagine that the connection could well be intermittent and even heat dependent

thanks again chaps... i had a mate just come round and he put his tech 2 on and found that there is no communication with the ecu.....= knackered....like you all said, i just had to make sure.... you know how it is...!!

so all i need to do is get the right ecu....? are they all the same for my model?..... anyone have a part number? my mate has a few in his garage (he works on saabs) and apparently they sometimes use the same parts......

if he has one and i get to keep the knackered one i may have go at repairing it..... ala previous post..... and offer it out to other members..

My ABS ECU on my 2.5L year 2000 facelift auto was Bosch part number 0273004206 (Vx 9117171). I got mine from I think a late minifacelift from a breaker. About £40 some 3 years ago I think. If you go to your local Vx dealer, he will quote you about £300 but he will also be able to tell you the Bosch and Vx part numbers. As others have said, there are a few variants.

It did take some finding though so you might be better off having your own reconditioned
