hello, what would be wrong with my omega 2.0 8 valve, sometimes when the car has been idling for around 15 min, the revs suddenly drop and jump between 500-0 for a few seconds and then the car shuts down. when i try to start the car again, it cranks but doesnt start. however it does restart when it is jump started or given some kind of auxiliary power. thanks in advance

What happens after a successful jump-start?

check the charging system and battery ,there's a guide

also idle control valve
coolant temperature sensor (common fault on 8 valves)
gear select inhibiter switch if auto box
fuel pump relay
check all the engine earth points/strap etc are sound
