Glowing exhaust/cat.
« on: 11 January 2021, 22:11:25 »

The offside exhaust was glowing red hot i noticed tonight, just about where it bends almost 90 degrees.
Is this just below the first cat?
It happens to be the side that has been throwing up codes for a missfire.

Any ideas guys? Is it blocked?
Obviously i will need to replace it, can anybody point me in the right direction? I didnt want to use ebay..

That IS the first cat.

It will be a result of the misfire rather than the cause.

First find the cause of the misfire on the offside bank and fix it. It'll be excess fuel from the misfire burning in the first cat that's causing the cat to overheat.

Then worry about the cat.

New type approved cats for Omegas are becoming pricey, north of £200 per side plus the cost of new lambdas and there is less choice around. So there's no point in changing one or both sides unless you know for certain it's broken and the emissions are out of speck.

For anyone wanting a replacement cat, might be worth speaking to the “Cat Man”.

Website is http://www.catman.co.uk/

Email is info@catman.co.uk

Have had a few off him for various cars and always been good service and quality items.

Cost me around £100 (maybe a bit less) for a 2.2 type-approved cat delivered for my 2.0 if that helps?
