The outer heatsheilds on both main cats have started to split and also have holes on the bottom surface pressumably from speed bumps or similar.

Cant tell,but imagine the inner metal and cat is fine as no blows etc,but as these are a pricey item to replace is it worth investing in some heat exhaust bandage and giving them both some additional protection from the elements to prolong their life.

with wrap best drop in to water let soak and then wrap round .

Does it act as a catalyst to help the bandage bind properly

The fibreglass tape is quite firm and doesn't shape very easily (especially when using on branch manifolds).  Soaking in water makes it more pliable.

Thanks for the advise about the wrap and also the tip on soaking it first to aid application.

Would it not be ok to leave the heatsheilds intact as its only the bottom face of it that is damaged,then just wrap around it as it is

Er no. The bandage is your new heat-shield, and is more efficient aswell.
