Title: 2.6 Elite Estate for Spares or Repair!
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 14 November 2023, 14:05:23
A week or so ago I purchased an Elite Estate, with only a couple of days MOT, for the bargain price of £275. I was planning to strip various components from it, for my 3.2 project (seen in the background!), but for various reasons I've been able to get them elsewhere, so I can now avoid stripping this one down in the cold and rain.

Essentially I am offering the car for what I paid for it - £275. The MOT has now expired.

The description is already here on this board, by the previous owner, Boatboy, so I don't need to repeat it, because it's honest and comprehensive. Only additional point is that there are 4 x very good Continental tyres fitted.

Offered to the forum for £275, which is below scrap value. Worth a fortune in parts but I really (really) CBA to break an Omega over winter. MOT has expired, handbrake is shagged, might need welding, take a punt for very little money?

Located in Oxfordshire. Photos taken this weekend after my drive home. Did the 50 miles without issue. Pulls well, gearbox great, slight pull to the right under braking. The final picture is trying to show a small crack at the bottom of the screen but it's not come out very well.

Grab a bargain :y

Yes, if a forum member genuinely wants it. That was the advertised price (to forum members). If someone comes up with the money it’s gone. First come first serve - so far no genuine forum interest and just off topic posts.

I have cancelled the bid of the chap who entered £1020. If somethings too good to be true then it usually is, and his feedback says he has won car auctions but not turned up to pay in the recent past.

I haven’t got time to mess about over something so cheap. I am away a lot at the moment.

This is a genuine advert and the price is low because I want a hassle free sale. I am only seeking to recoup what I spent.

I have only listed it elsewhere because historically cars don’t sell that well on here and I want it gone. It’s out of my control what people bid.

I’ve been on here for enough years (decades?) that hopefully people know I’m good to my word. But I’m also getting old and grumpy and will not deal with ebayers who have been reported for winning auctions and failing to pay. No disrespect to anyone but I don’t have the time or the patience.

Apologies re inbox.

I’ve just done my occasional eBay browse, and seen this car advertised at £1500, rather than the
£275 I asked for it.

It’s still there is anyone is interested - RK53 ZWT.

Nothing to do with me, just an observation.

At £275 I got  / offered a bargain… £1500 for a scrapper (that’s all it’s good for without significant work) is just ridiculous.

Agree with you James, tbh I'm thinking that most of the sellers on ebay are just trying their luck on the pricing. Many of the cars have pending tinworm problems, and then when it comes to MOT, cambelt and service history, it can get a bit sketchy there also. But I'm continually getting messages about selling my cars, and although they are realistically £1000 cars,as most of them are on ebay, and I'm £20-30k down the road at least on upkeep. I would still be embarrassed to be asking the sort of money that some people are asking for on ebay/FB  But then having said that....go silly on the prices, and that would be a very handy boost to a deposit on a KIA Stinger :-\ .....nope, just dreaming!

Apparently it has a fresh MoT so scrapper might be a bit judgemental.

But could someone please elighten me how the mileage can be retared - does it get flaged and checked for the reason why or just accepted?

When I bought this car it had 137,000 miles on.

It’s now being advertised (at a dealer) with 91k miles.

I wouldn’t trust the garage or the MOT as far as I could throw them

I hadn't spotted the mileage discrepancy. Either the person who bought it from you has turned the dealer over and they're too stupid to have done even a basic check, or the dealer is a slippery as a mouldy trout. Or both.

Or the clocks have been changed because of a cluster issue.

Yes but then you'd address it head on in the advert. There's clearly a discrepancy and not mentioning it suggests a level of deception.

When I swapped the clocks on my Ex Plod it was noted in the service book, both the end mileage on one set and the start mileage on the replacement. A third cluster replacement was adjusted to accurately reflect the combined total of the previous two

IF The NT (MOT tester)  has entered it wrong on the VTS device (system) ,it can be altered by contacting VOSA or asking the tester to do it . ;)
IF the mile reading has "gone back"  on the dash ,from previous records  :-X  the NT HAS to record the milage shown on the dash as presented for MOT.
if ,in the case of a faulty LCD or similar mileometer ,the milage can't be viewed ,it should be noted as such eg "unreadable"
The Tester Could add an "advisory" note if he wanted , but that's unlikely .

MOT certificates and service histories are NOT proof of the correct milage ,or the vehicle is safe or 'fault free' or indeed ever been serviced .

people can't always be trusted   ::)

MOT just means that for one hour on a certain day the vehicle met the requirements, doesn't mean its any good.

Still appears to be listed for sale in the same place,  and the outfit have dropped the price to £1350.

Mileage still at 90,338 though  ::)

I thought decent omegas were selling like hot cakes, wonder why this hasn’t been snapped up!

Because the first thing most people do is check the MOT history, and that one is best avoided.

I was going to see an X Trail today, but a quick glance at its MOT history told me it had been neglected from day one.
