Title: 2.2 Desmond For sale - Time to hang up his boots :(
Post by: DrAndyB on 30 October 2020, 19:29:36
My Dads Y plate 2.2 Auto Petrol is looking for a new home.

We got her MOT'ed but needs some welding.  Not an issue to I believe (we even got a quote), but my dad is 80, health not good, so he has painfully decided to hang up (for the time being) his Omega Boots  :'(

Some highlights:

As said, she will need some welding done.  MOT items to address were:

There were some other in relation brake pipes and a bush but not a failure.

Its a shame as my dad has enjoyed the car but time get rid now unfortunately.

I am sure somebody could get her up to scratch, but unfortunately my dad being 80 has admitted to me today that he can't see him using the car even if he had it sorted (which otherwise he would have had done).

Typically done 1,000 a year, and last couple of years only a few hundred miles in the year, just 100 this last year  :'(

If anybody is interested, then let me know else it looks like she is destined for the great breakers in the sky :(

No idea what she is 'Worth', not much probably but seems a shame to terminate her just yet  :'(

If interested, let me know.

Andy.

Hi.  They actually live in Stafford, ST17 Postcode.  She has a Stainless exhaust fitted as well.  You get a Free whole Omega if collect for the price of the Towbar  ;)

I live Cheshire, else I would be able to sort something, so I am just looking to shift if for my Dad who now 80 is coming to terms with probably not driving again now unfortunately :'(

Sadly the cost of buying and moving/recovering the car(about 50 miles) as a whole and also it being a 2.2 (so many of the parts, exhaust etc are of no use to me ,i have a V6 ) make me buying the car unviable sorry  :(

Also, me removing the towbar and picking over the Omega's corpse for V6 common parts like the mirrors ,prior to a scrap man collecting would probably be too upsetting for your Dad  :'(

It's a shame to just scrap it ,but the cost of welding and work required etc limits the market

hopefully someone can make you an offer on the whole car  :)

Best of luck with your MOT
give it a fighting chance by checking everything you are able too ,lights, horn, washers, wipers etc  ;)
and good luck finding a new home for your Dad's Omega

The only advisory that car will get might be for being too shiny :y
