« on: 25 January 2009, 17:02:16 »
Next silly Q...whats the drop link, where is it...

Is it the other end of the steering rod to the steering idler? Or the bit that connects to? Or something else completely??  :y

Omega General Help / Steering Idler - Fitting Problem...
« on: 08 January 2009, 13:18:06 »
Ok so last night in the dark I ran over a tow bar that was sitting on my drive...like a t*t rather than jack up the car and remove the offending tow bar, I drove back over it until the car was free of said offending tow bar...luckily the tow bar was fine! lol  :y

The steering idler passenger side however was not as I managed to snap it in the process!!

So following guide I removed the old snapped one today...and removed the one from a scrap car I have here as needs sorting rather urgently so fitted the replacement...

Problem is that the centre bolt turns with the nut...I gather you need to apply pressure to the back of the ball joint for it to grip...but how?? As a one man job applying loads of pressure to the joint and doing up the nut at the same time seems rather a tricky process...

Also will the old ball joint regrip or do I have no choice but to get a new idler arm??

TIA for your help :)

Omega General Help / Getting Codes 57 61!! & 93 Any Thoughts??
« on: 17 December 2008, 10:59:07 »
Got the car from Markey Mark, all very nice but EML light was on...

Was revving high when warm due to (as Mark indeed suspected) the differences between 2.5 and 3.0 throttle body, thats now sorted as 2.5 throttle body is on but EML light still on...its a 3.0 engine in place of what was a 2.5...

Did a paperclip test and got the following codes...

57   Idle Air Control Voltage Low
61   Fuel Tank Ventilation Valve Voltage Low
93   Hall Sensor Voltage Low

So first question, are they likely to be codes hanging about from before the throttle body was swapped and will disappear in time...

And second, if not what do I look at first, IACV?? Not seen the other 2 codes before and no idea where they are...

TIA  :y  :y

Omega General Help / Facelift MV6 Running Issues
« on: 28 December 2008, 14:08:56 »
Ok, picked up a facelift 3.2 ex cop MV6 yesterday...

Starts and just about runs but then dies and VERY lumpy...

Had a fiddle checking for air leaks especially IACV and have got it to a point where it stays running but lumpy and a bit loud, got a strong feeling its an air leak quite possibly something to do with plenum although could of course be dispack failure...

No idea how the symptoms started but its a nice car and needs sorting :) Doesnt seem to have been hacked about like some ex cop cars, nice CCR2006 stereo in it etc...

Whats the best place to start, any ideas?

Omega General Help / Oil Leak Passengers Side
« on: 28 December 2008, 08:42:32 »
Sold the engine from my old 98 2.5 estate, the guy has fitted it into his mini facelift 2.5 and says there is a major oil leak from the passengers side, no signs of leaking cam cover gasket apparently...

Any ideas on what else might be leaking oil from passengers side??

Omega General Help / Head/s Kna*kered???
« on: 27 November 2008, 12:38:53 »
Ok got a 3.0 engine here from a non running Omega...

Now it wouldnt crank at all, however I removed the aux belt and now it will, so guessing one of the aux bits has seized...

However it will only turn about 270 degrees from about 12 o clock position round to about 9 o clock position...bent valve or something do you think or something less sinister?? And with it rotating 270 degrees do you reckon 1 head or 2 have problems if its that??

Omega General Help / Changing Cambelt
« on: 15 November 2008, 07:59:41 »
Think I have the cambelt DVD somewhere, found it in a car I got to scrap...but cant lay my hands on it atm...

Just wondering, basically if you have a cambelt locking kit, you just stick it in to stap the cams moving, undo all the bits to give access to remove the belt/tensioners...swap the old belt/tensioners with a new one...do all the bits back up...and job done? Do you need to line anything up??

Omega General Help / Coolant Loss
« on: 27 October 2008, 07:58:47 »
Any thoughts on what to look for...mates 2.5 v6 Omega is loosing coolant, had a look for leaks...doesnt appear to be overheating (not above 97) some sign of bubbles in the header tank with the cap off and engine running, coolant not overflowing...

Topped up to check level ran car, all ok when checked in the morning header tank all but empty...

I'm hoping for his sake its the HBV, but could this be more serious?

« on: 15 October 2008, 23:20:07 »
Is there a how to on upgrading the rear shocks on an estate to self levelling ones from an elite? Cant imagine there is much involved in putting the shocks themselves in place...but what about the pipe into it, where does that come from and how easy would it be to add??
