I wonder why GM beefed up European models for SA when they could have just shipped in Holdens.  :-\ The Saffer's would have loved them!  :y  Still would come to think about it...  ::)
Colonial politics ;)

I thought that was an arms and Kit Kat embargo....  :-\  ::)
I was actually thinking of the German influence :-\

German influence in Sef Efrica?  You've lost me there Al...  :-\

No, Tig.....German influence here....to stop them coming here.....

That's what he means, but I don't believe those nice Germans would interfere in such a way.

Namibia...

Not much German influence there after 1915 when South Africa invaded what was then the German colony of South West Africa, although you still hear German spoken in places like Swakopmund and Luderitz.  ;)

I doubt the good burghers of Swakopmund and Luderitz have much influence in Russelshiem though.  ;D

Perhaps not, but Africa has always been European rather than Australian or North American in the grand scheme of commerce ;)

Very true, but that brings us full circle to my original wonderings as to why GM beefed up European models for South Africa rather than sell Holdens there as I'd say they are similar markets.  :-\

A quick wiki shows that GM were force to pull out of South Africa in 1986 by US anti apartheid legislation so your partially right when you said colonial politics affected GM operations there.  ;)

It still dosn't satisfy my musings though....  :-\
