First impressions are it sounds friggin excellent and that's with 15 year old Infinity components that are bolted to the doors  :y
These are coming out next month so a question to DaveDND and those who have dabbled in this sort of thing  :)
Are the Alpine components as good as this head unit ?

Aftermarket Head unit and Aftermarket speakers  do sound good, don`t they

Maybe you will see why I always bang on about that one  ;)

OK - replacing the Infinities - Yes, the Alpine ones are certainly as good as the Head units, but don`t go for the £50 entry level ones else they will be on a par with the Infinites when they were new, and that isn`t much of an upgrade considering the hassle involved in changing them.

Go for as good an Alpine set as you can that DO NOT NEED an amp to run them (£70~£100) - general rule of thumb in determining that one is to look at the crossovers - if they are pre-wired, they should be suitable for the head unit, and if they are bloody mahoosive with clear plastic parts and seperate screws for the wiring, then they really need an amp to get the most out of them.

Other makes? Focal would be worth a look too - they work nice with Alpine heads

Yep - search button is your friend here

And our workshop is in the UK for when you get it wrong, blow it up and need us to restore it back to its original condition

Good description, and SDVC stands for Speed Dependent Volume Control

Sounds like maybe a wee spurt of WD might clean the volume pot

Yes, its almost certainly your volume pot that needs a clean - but NEVER EVER use WD40 anywhere near it

If you must spray something into it, then use a proper switch cleaner, not an engine degreasant

I have been messing about with a later generation of LED lights called "LED COB" and they are significantly brighter than the norm

Stick that term into ebay and see what comes up   :y

It could also be a sign that your main battery voltage is a bit low

Not uncommon given the cold temperatures at the moment

But whatever it is, don`t ignore any early warning signs of a fault - Your local battery centre will give you a quick battery voltage and charging check, and if you are near any OOF members on here, I`m sure they would do it in return for a Bacon Butty or Hob Nobs

Picked the Clarion as has line in or speaker inputs and is small enough to tuck up behind the dash too

Have a look at the Clarion XC1410 amp and a Speaker upgrade - work well with the OEM head unit   :y

Internal aerials are never ever going to be as good as a nice external one

If you don`t want a cumbersome wing mounted one, then why not look at a roof mounted one - often easier to fit than you think

Seen a few people do this now in various vehicles, but that looks a really good screen option you have found there

Shall watch this thread with interest  8)

As others have said - replace the smokey alternator pack and check all fuses

When you think you have checked them all, check them again, and again

I say this because we get a lot of customers sending stuff to us after battery polarity issues, and there is always a hidden fuse somewhere that gets overlooked.

Seldom does any more damage, and you would be real unlucky if it had.

Don`t some PAYG cards auto expire if they are not used ?

To the OP, the word of the chap above, Dave DND is The Law on here with regard to in-car entertainment.

Once again, your word is very gratefully received, Dave  :)
I doubt that, we'd all be driving around with Clarion HU's as a replacement to our ripped out Bose if that was the case.  ;D, sorry Dave, no offence.  ;)

Specific Hirschmann models are the best solution but you'll need deep pockets.

Absolutely - But even then its a small price to pay for a solution  :y
