53plate Vectra

My neighbour...a fellow TD....but works for the other side  ::)...was in dispair yesterday.....his wipers stopped working....he has a Veccy 53 plate.

I took a look for him....the ball joint/socket had come adrift drivers side....loose arm had took out another ball joint/socket in the middle off the scuttle area....meaning no wipers  :(

I got the one back on in the middle of the scuttle with a postive click type noise.....but the drivers side altho i lined it up ok was not very positive and loose.

Looking at it....it looks like a ball and socket arrangement...with a rubbber/grommet which i think holds grease in it.... :-/ grommet was split and i think the socket arrangement had leaked the grease and the reason for the wearing off the balljoint and hence the failure

Anyway got him going again with a cable tie holding the ball socket joint together.....not sure how long this will last  :-/

But i thought this was crap!!! 3 yo car and the wipers fail!!  >:(

Looked it up on EPC for the complete wiper mechanism part no......dunno how much these are....but guess they arent cheap  :-/

I would think omegas have the same type of wiper mechanism  :(  :-/

Never heard of this one TD. You know Veccies as well as anyone and I think you'll agree they're not bad motors. You are just always going to get one........................ :-/

wiper mechanism off omega listed on fleabay here, a "faulty" one is here

I swapped the wiper motor on my old miggy as it kept stopping (motor was fubar'd, had obviously been jammed at some point in the past 'cos the windings stank or burnt enamel !!), so I'd have thought the latter item should be fixable ...

Veccy 'C' wiper linkage is P/N 93185525 ... and it looks different to the miggy one - the motor is in the middle of the linkage assembly on the veccy, on the end of the miggy one ...

I'd be quite impressed that they lasted so long on a Vectra  ;D

Omega one is totaly different and built like a brick out house....

My experience of wiper mechanism failure on any car has almost always been due to driver lazyness.....

....they bung the wiper on when the screen is frozen or iced.....if the wipers are able to move, the drag is huge.....hence high wear rate.

Of course....only a bloody idiot would go any where with steamed up or iced up windows......wouldn't they!

According to vx parts guy, its a common problem on veccyC  :o

Reckons he's always ordering new wiper mechanisms!

I think it maybe to do with the rain sensitive wipers  :-/

Coz ive noticed, if you leave the wipers on 'auto' i also have the sensitivity set to 2 (1 being the lowest, 4 the highest)......that quite often the wipers sweep when the screen is pretty much dry....and moderate rain has them going on high speed......you would think setting them to sensitivity of 1 would do the trick.....but then when it is raining fairly hard they just do an occansional sweep!

BTW £67+vat with discount for a new one  :(
