Removing Stubby Roof Aerial - Facelift Omega Sal
« on: 03 November 2007, 19:40:23 »

Hi Folks,

I want to take the stubby roor aerial (the one that's for mobile phone) off my facelift Omega Saloon, so I can put a bee-sting in its place.

Has anyone done this before?  How do you do it?

Cheers,
 :y

You have to drop the roof lining if you are changing the base as well, not a hard job but quite time consuming and be very gentle with it ;)

If it's the antenna, it just unscrews.

If you need to remove the complete unit you'll have to remove the plastic trim which runs the length of the back window, where the high level brakelight is, to gain access for removal.  :y

Thanks - sorry, I should have been a bit more clear - yep, I do mean to remove the whole unit, not just the antenna bit.

I got the back of the headlining down this afternoon to have a gander at how its fixed on, but can't really tell.  How is it fixed on, and how do I get the thing off (before I attack it with tools of increasing size and damaging power till it eventually relquinisheses it's grip to my Omega's roof!  >:(  :D )

Its easy, the wires appear through the centre of a stud which sticks through the roof, on the stud is a nut and crinkle washer....remove the nut, disconnect the wires and it lifts out.

Cheers Mark - is the nut inside the car, or is it the one that you can see when you unscrew the aerial mast thingy?  :-[

Aye, that would be very useful thanks Mark - at least then I'd have an idea of what I need to get at!  It's not too easy to see when it's fitted to the car (I'll only be taking the back of the headlining down)  :y
