I noticed when I replaced the cabin filter/pollen filter thing it was quite loose in it's mountings, is that right? It seemed like almost half the thickness of the actual holder bit it goes into, so you can move it up and down in holder. I also seen some talk that the facelift model it should be a charcoal filter and not a plain filter that's for the PFL, I think the replacement was charcoal as it had a sort of dark hue look to it on it but couldn't be sure.

Genuine ones are a reasonably snug fit.

some say charcoal type yes but cantsee it making any real difference   .mines not even got a filter in at all ! no noticeble issues although ive never used the ac anyway . worked 9 years ago but not sure now ?

They are normally a reasonable fit TBH.

FL need the active type, due to the air quality sensor fitted just behind it.  PFL/MFL do not have the air quality sensor, so can get away with plain filters.

air quality sensor . wow never heard of one of them before . just googled it . so not a part of the normal heater just on the ac side

Mine tend not to support themselves in the frame whilst changing them - a finger is needed to hold them on situ whilst fastening the clips. And that is genuine GM charcoal filters.... can't say about other makes, as I've only ever fitted genuine GM.

I'll double check the one in it and see if it is for the FL one. Just thought it would have been tighter in the slot it goes in.

Facelift/not Facelift/ charcoal/not charcoal, all the pollen filters are the same size because the place they go is the same size regardless of spec, age or badge.

Basically, if your filter is loose, then it's the wrong one. Simples.

Even if the clips were broken off it would still be a snug fit.

I have to compress the sides slightly on the genuine GM pollen filters to place them in position, but they still need a helping finger to support them until 'clipped'....
Maybe I should write to GM and tell them their filters are the wrong size then....

I don't have any clips as such it just slides into a recess. There is plastic sort of guides but they've not get clips or anything on it to secure it.

Clips snap over the front corners. Easily broken off with ham fisted bodgery.

My notes say that the Mann active carbon filters are a bit too thin.  Crosland ones are better as are Wix. I would avoid Crosland for oil filters but their cabin filters seemed ok.

Cheap aftermarket parts are cheap for a reason. Genuine service parts are cost effective enough not to bother with anything else, especially when the anything else doesn't fit properly or last as long.
