I believe it can use the newer map CDs...  ...however, it is quite an old system, and will never be like the newer ones....

newer Disk maps are available...  retail is around £90 i think... or it was when mine was updated in about 2004

I have a spare one from about 2001 you can have...  at least it's later than 1998......   but for current data you'll have to go to Vx.

I bought the 2006 tele-atlas disc from Germany (eBay) for £30 quid. Sure, the CARiN system is neot great but it works and its integrated. If you need a hand finding the right one on eBay let me know...

dave c,
Thanks ill keep an eye on it.
Sophos 9,
yes if you dont mind you can keep me posted on the latest thats available  , eg, on ebay etc.
ive just looked at mine and its the original 98 vdo/carin, so it must be way out of date.
again thanks to all
jud
PS  also, does anybody know if i can search by entering post code on the later models available to me and  or, entering the street first  then searching cities.
again thanks jud

I think post code search has to be a feature of the hardware and operating system, not just the map...  My original system still only does street name&number + town/city , that's with 2004 Data....   I keep meaning to update it to the latest version......

Pm reply imminent...  BTW

Postcode search is software based, 2006 teleatlas enables postcode searches on CARiN systems

In my instance, I have a totally standard Phillips CARiN, it came with the original SatNav disc which only had the midlands!! The disc is the limiting factor here...

I believe this is the disc but please email the seller first!

This is the version info from my CARiN
HW-ID 1005
SW-ID 1500

Hope it helps  :y
