Don't quote me, but I thought the Carin one needed a system software update to do postcodes...

In my instance, I have a totally standard Phillips CARiN, it came with the original SatNav disc which only had the midlands!! The disc is the limiting factor here...

I believe this is the disc but please email the seller first!

This is the version info from my CARiN
HW-ID 1005
SW-ID 1500

Hope it helps  :y

Mine won't let me put all of the post code in.
If the post code was AB1 2CD it would let you get as far as AB1 2.. then it'd ask you for the street name. My disc is a *coughs* of a 2004 disc!  ::)

Found it!  :)
Ident No     SY582/7
HW-ID        0203
SW-ID        0230
Prod Date   99/07

Who can remember what the code is to get into service? I've been there before but can't remember the code now. I'd like to have a play with the disc that allows you to change the voice.

Just browsing through and thought I’d comment on a few points raised. First of all full postcode searches are not possible with the GM Carin system, only partial searches as pointed out above, provided you have a mapping disk that supports it (I think 2002 and later if I remember correctly).  As for upgrading the firmware the standard GM fit systems used a firmware version that was unique to GM so you would need a GM upgrade disk. The standard Carin firmware disc would not work. I think the latest version of the firmware is 2.3. This was at one time available from Vauxhall along with language discs. I did find a firmware disc by accident at my local dealer’s parts department who had no idea what it was and thought it was a mapping disc. Vauxhall switched to a different Sat Nav system in 1999. Sadly much of the information regarding Carin has now disappeared from the internet although there is still some useful stuff in German. ;)
