Title: Don't be embarrassed by this question
Post by: STEMO on 13 January 2017, 16:29:40
Did your wife force you watch eastenders last night? I was sitting, farting about on my iPad, while wifey was watching it, and I heard 'arse' mentioned.
'Did she just say arse?'
'Yes, she did'.
'It's only twenty to eight. This is a soap on the BBC, it's not right'.
'She only said arse, people say it all the time'.
'Hmmmmmm.........'

Five minutes later:
'Did she just say 'shagging?'
'Yes, she did'.
'Now come on, ten to eight on a soap that kids watch'.
'I know. You're right....not good'.

I am not a prude, as you all know. But that is just not on. In fact, someone wants sacking.

Have you heard the language that kids use these days? My wife used to run the local Playschool (toddlers, pre-school age) and the foul language coming from them shocked her - and she is married to an Engineer (me) who is accustomed to the occasional colourful word or two.....

I have a serious problem with Eastenders.

I'll resist the temptation to go on a real long winded rant, but I genuinely believe that it has had a long term detrimental affect on attitudes and behavior in this country. Mini-rant over

I agree 100% with that Rog.

Nope, you're bang on.

Rather than trying to be anywhere near what a soap originally was from a realism viewpoint, it tries to be edgy, making up tackling "modern issues" (because obviously gay/lesbo/racial/mixed-race/teenage bun-in-oven/adultery and so on has never happened before), but ultimately ends up being the most depressing pile of shit ever written in any format.  I honestly do not believe it gets the viewing figures claimed, even considering the lack of anything else.  You'd clearly have to be a bit deranged in the head to actively watch it...   ...probably deranged because they had watched it.

Christ, if I'd been forced to watch that tripe as a kid, I would have committed suicide way before puberty.

In falling over backwards not to offend the damaged, the ethnic minorities, the homosexuals and other pressure groups, they manage to offend the normal, white and straight members of the indiginous population with their over-representation of said groups. However, if we natives of this great and erstwhile free country complain, we are called racist - or any other "-ist" that you can think of - and are made to feel in the wrong for being normal and proud of it.

You can't say 'normal'. It makes out that 'the others' are not normal. Very sexracehomophobic, Ron. Tut....tut.

I have to endure all 3 main soaps as my wife enjoys them, I think .... :-\

I can't watch any of them but have to sometimes sit in the same room that they are being aired. . I find Eastenders the most thoroughly depressing ,gloomy  and  improbable series penned by irresponsible script writers ,ever.
Why the pious pontificating Godfathers of the BBC allow such utter drivel to be aired ,let alone pre watershed , I do not understand.
As for the other two Emmerdale  and C street , they seem to have storylines that are completely and utterly unbelievable where the scriptwriters just ignore any facts or realities that get in their way. How many murders and vile deeds can be committed by a group of repugnant inhabitents within an acre in the Yorkshire Dales or back street in Salford , and the perpertrators never get caught .
I agree that there is a price to be paid for such faeces onTV . Kids must believe it's normal

Exactly the point. High profile people are constantly scrutinized and criticised for what they say and do, often being told that they are "role models" and should "set an example". However, we have a generation or two of people who think it is normal and indeed desirable, to be constantly confrontational in a very "in your face" manner, amongst acquiring many other unsociable characteristics. Thanks to 'Stenders.

They weren't. Luckily, they were well into their teens before Mary lost her marbles.

Stopped watching Mindbenders a number of years ago now, along with Faceache too....

The wife watches the omnibus editions of both Emmerdale and Coronation Street on Saturdays whilst I find something to do or a place to go to.....
