Omega Electrical and Audio Help / alpine intergration
« on: 17 April 2011, 11:45:37 »
Hi this is possibly a question  for DND Dave.

what if any alpine h/u without a screen can accecpt navi input for playing through the speakers.

I have a alpine stand alone dvd navi unit with its own screen and was wondering if it is possible to connect it to a alpine 7887 cd reciver for the navi directions over car speakers while still having the maps on it own screen if that makes sence

The word Coaxial means "Having or mounted on a common axis."

When applied to the conductors of a cable it means only that. Coaxial cable is available in many different types, some suitable for audio, some suitable for video, some suitable for RF, some suitable for neither.

The electricity supply to my house comes in on a coaxial cable. Live on the centre conductor, neutral on the armoured outer. I wouldn't like to try connecting an aerial with it. ;)

Kevin

I think you may have that wrong Kevin the supply to you house if not via overhead lines as in the countryside will be line conducter in the middle mineral sheath insulation with the outer conductor being both neutral and earth . as this is what is termed a T-N-C-S system

Correct. :y Neutral and earth are combined in such a system. It's still a coaxial cable though. ;)

Kevin

i now understand what you are getting at, and i will accecpt that coaxial cable is 2 conductors running on a common axis however if you where to walk in to a electrical wholesellers and asked for coax cable you would be given airael cable not power cable

What are these Kevin and where would they run from/to ::)

Told you I was useless at this stuff ;D

From the head unit to the amp.

Coax cable for the audio signals and a single switching wire to tell the amp to power up when the head unit does.

Probably easiest to buy a kit... I notice Dave sells them. http://www.dndservices.co.uk/px006.html

Not, however, that you might need a longer power cable. 5m is not quite enough to do an Omega, IME. Might just about reach the parcel shelf, I suppose.

Kevin

COAX Cable is not used for audio feeds, Coax is for aerials.

pete if you are removing the interior the run the power cable and switch cable down the passenger side and the phono cables down the middle of the car thats the way i did mine, also uesd 2x6inch phillips subs in parcel shelf very nice sound

I think you might also need a immoblizer transponder to ensure theremote start kit can actually start the car,and that can have negitive responce from your insurance provider. or am i not thinking straight

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: speaker sizes
« on: 15 May 2010, 07:49:09 »
standard speakers sizes are 6.5 inch/165mm in front doors on spacers, and 5.25 inch/130mm rear doors if in a saloon and on rear deck same as front doors though i think that was the bose system

its a 1997 r reg its a prefacelift but its got steering wheel controls and xenons so im guessin its a mini facelift

the bit next to the stereo is missing so im not sure what should be there but there is a plug there

if poss would some 1 be able to take a pic of the plug on the tc switch that is next to the stereo just to compare to the plug on mine

but if it should be in the row with the hazzards any ideas why i aint got any wires goin there

given the year i would have thought it would be the big button next to the radio, also if the tc light is flashing and the revs drop when the wheels start to spin the switch has been bypassed so you cant turn tc off,or is my line of thinking off the radar.

if however the switch should be withthe hazards there should be tell tell signs which wire/wires have been played with imho
