Title: !!!NEW Exhaust on the CAT!!!
Post by: CateraMV6 on 17 September 2008, 13:41:24
I just got them put on, the sound is amazing, I am in love with it!...

Total cost was 45$ for the mufflers and 100$ installation!

Here are some pictures.

And a YouTube Video!
ENJOY!  Comments are welcome too!

very nice, like that, nice deep rumble. Doubt we could get them for $45 here  ::)

Whats the noise like at a 80/90 cruise inside the car?

I take it the back box remained un-changed?

The only thing removed was the Two Mufflers under the car and replaced with these Cherry Bomb style ones made by FlowTECH and these have Louvers rather then perforated steel on the inside.

As for sound during idle its exactly like stock soundwise.

Under Normal street driving it sounds deep and a little agressive and the closest thing that compares is my friends E36 M3 with stock system except mine is just a tad bit louder.

On the 70mph/120kph I think its almost like stock but you can hear it enogh to tell that its different, but not loud enough to make the ride unpleasant.

And if you were to run up through the RPMs it sounds much louder but still nice, I ran all the way up to 6000RPM and in fact it seemed like the engine made more noise but it sounds bad ass between 3000-5000 under load! I got  a few people to turn heads as i passed them.

I would recommend that to anyone interested in confusing the hell out of people because a sound like that is only expected out of cars in much higher class at least in my opinion.    :o

I was affraid that the sound will be too loud but so far its just the right balance of tone and loudness right where it belongs on the RPM scale.

45$ is silly money for them, thats about £22.50 here!!

Makes sense to use those rather than OEM boxes!

IDK what shipping would be but I am sure I can get these and ship them out from here.  They Ship for free within the US and shipping to UK or Germany should not be too much more, I expect 20-40$ range for both mufflers which should put it at around £45 which may or may not be much.

So I took the car on a long trip around 800mi and I was impressed, the sound inside the cabin is rather quiet but has just enough of a hint to tell you that there is something different under there.
Power has increased and I can tell the engine seems to be able to rev up fastrer  and also has more torque across the power band.
Put your foot into it and you can even hear the tires chirp but the TC kicks in too soon to spoil your fun...

DYNO numbers will be taken soon to compare overall performance increase and bench it against the old dyno which was 195RWHP and 207RWTQ.

A new sound clip is in the making with a slightly better camera... so hold your breaths...  ::)

If anyone that wants them in the UK then try custom chrome in Nuneaton, thats where I got mine from when I was driving the yankee cars.

Had a pair fitted to this.

Yep the ones on ebay will work perfectly, after all the V6 is extreemly quiet and thats partially due to the firing order and the way the exhaust is set up... even wide open its still on the quiet side.

... but please do keep the back box as that will clear out some nasty sounds in the high pitch zone that will make you hate it...

At the time I used the cherry bombs I found the engine /exhaust noise altered a lot according to where they were fitted.

The Camaro was a breeze, 2 bends off  the manifold and 2 strait pipes under the diff straight out the back.  When the bombs were fitted near the front the exhaust made an awfull frapping noise.  Nearer back sounded nicer.

Dont know what size would suit the Omega, but Custom chrome did reducers, so I started with large ID as possible and reduced

Well in the OMEGA case there are two mufflers under the car and all you are doing is replacing them with a straight through muffler that reduces backpressure and even thou it cant cancel as much noise its still jsut right.

With the oem backbox you will get a slightly more quiet note but on the agressive side... I have the Steinmetz back box and I bet that has some to do with the current tone... I guess I can always try the oem box for comparison...

Sounds lovely - just about to have similar work done on mine. 2 of these plus a Remus back box.

By the way, you heard this mother!?

Yep mine is not the loudest but it purrs like a kitten, and grows like a lion in the high revs.... and I like that, still quiet for those 5+hr Highway runs to Chicago.... I spend a good 10hrs of driving on a weekend when I go to see my parents so this level of sounds suits me best...

My camera is crappy too, and the sound is somewhat not the same as you hear it in person but for now we will have to stick to that.

Love to hear some more sounds... maybe we can make a sticky thread with all the photos/info/sound clips of all exhausts fitted so far...
 :y  Lovely work mates
