Omega General Help / Creaking....
« on: 16 April 2016, 15:42:05 »
Hi all

My 2.6 2001 Elite Estate creaks like heck every time I go over speed humps, etc. I know the back shock absorbers are supposed to be self levelers, but they are non levelling on there. It creaks at the front too. Is it the shock absorbers or would it be the springs. There can't be a major problem as it passed the MOT with flying colours, and was doing it before.
IMO, it drives ok, using it regularly, its just over humps and bumps :(
Opinions appreciated :y

General Discussion Area / Money does strange things....
« on: 12 April 2016, 22:59:12 »
You may (or may not) remember me posting quite a while back, that swmbo's cousin died intestate, and swmbo stood to get quite a tidy sum from the estate.
If you remember, although there was no will, he did leave a 'Wish List'. However, as unsigned and undated, this was not a legal document.
Swmbo was named on the wish list, as were 5 other cousins/friends. Also four charities, including Cancer Research.
So....the inheritance is split between all cousins (10). Due to deaths, some of the cousins offspring will receive equal shares of what their dead parent would have received.
This next bit is the bit that gets right up my craw. The solicitor dealing with the case, sent a copy of the 'Wish List' and a letter asking if we would like to follow his wishes and donate some money back to his named charities.
I won't bore you with the legalities of how this is done to reclaim monies from HMRC paid as inheritance tax, But basically, we have received a document to sign, that shows all the beneficiaries, and what they have donated.
All those on the original wish list have all donated monies back, from between £1000 and £8000.
Those who will inherit by default, and did not even know of his existence, ie, children of deceased parents have donated........up to £100, some nothing at all.
Sorry to burden you with this, I need to get my feelings of anger off my chest, as we are talking large five figure sums being paid to each of these tight bastids !!!!!!!!
I am ashamed to be closely related to some (who are already rolling in it) >:( >:( >:( >:(

General Discussion Area / Busy day planned !
« on: 29 March 2016, 10:27:12 »
Today is our 47th wedding anniversary. I have an exciting day planned. If it stays fine, we shall be on Weymouth beach playing sandcastles, then....the climax of the afternoon...we are going to Cineworld to see...Kung Fu Panda 3. ( We have our 6 yr old Grandaughter staying with us until Thursday )
I am welled up with excitement...not!!! ;D
However, at 6pm we have friends coming to our caravan to babysit, whilst we go to the local pub, The Silent Woman, and have a couple of pints of Stowford Press, and a Fillet Steak. That I am looking forward to :y

General Discussion Area / Timber question
« on: 16 March 2016, 14:54:45 »
If you buy treated timber, how far into the wood does the treatment penetrate.
I have bought Wickes 4x4 fence posts, gravel boards, arris rails and featheredge boards. They have to be cut down, so have exposed edges. Will the weather get in where timber has been cut. In the case of the posts, is it best to put cut end in the ground or the non cut end. Same with feather edge, cut end against the gravel board, or the other way up.
TIA  :y

Omega General Help / Fault codes..
« on: 24 February 2016, 16:34:03 »
Hi all, swmbo just come back and said the  car... 2.6 auto saloon.. not running right, and the spanner light was on, so came home slow. Said gears did not seem right. Also the other day, she said, the gear lever 'jumped'. I took it out, no light, and all seems well.
Done pedal trick and got 1 7 10 10 which collates to.. P1700 Service Vehicle Soon Request from Transmission Control Module.
Please tell me that means it only needs oil !!!! :(

Just out of interest, I also did the other 2.6 auto, and got 10 1 3 5 (P0135) and also 10 1 5 5 (P0155).
I have checked the lists, but do not understand the diagnosis. The car seems to run well. Could someone put those two results into plain English for me. Would be much appreciated. Sorry to be a PIA :-[

General Discussion Area / Back to childhood...
« on: 20 February 2016, 12:03:26 »
A friend has given us a scalextric set, A Formula 0ne X3. Said I would use it for when the grandchildren visited. It a fair sized track with crossovers and bridge. Unfortunately, the nosecone of the red car is missing. I obtained a cheap car from the net, a Bentley Continental. Goes like the clappers. Grandson came over and brought his Escort Mexico, and a gold and black Lancia that I bought him last year.
Basically, having never had a Scalextric...boyhood has kicked in. Seriously thinking of getting more track and scenery bits and making it 'more regular' ;D
