I use rain - x on the front and rear windscreen (external only) and find it lasts about 3 weeks. I have been impressed with the results. I don't see it being any good for the indside of the screen.

Might be off the mark but have you checked to see if any of the cam cover bolts are loose?

Thanks for reply and its good to know that operating temperatures are relatively low.

Have been doing a bit more searching and pan removal is not straightforward.

- The pan is aluminium and as far as I can tell requires the suspension to come off and engine to be raised slightly which is beyond my capabilities.
- Was thinking of trying to press the cracked lip up a bit with a piece of wood and gently hammering, then using an epoxy repair putty (suitable up to 150c). Sump will be drained already and thinking to leave for 24hrs to let putty set properly. Then see how it goes for a while. The crack is at the bottom of pan which is not so susceptible to high pressure.

General Car Chat / Oil sump pan for Merc e300td 1999
« on: 31 December 2013, 18:50:25 »
Can anyone recommend where to source the above / someone who can replace? Was about to put the undertray on this morning after an oil change the day before and the jack slipped cracking the oil sump pan (luckily axle stands saved me... unluckily the sump pan is cracked :'(

Damaged area is at base of pan about 5 inches long with part of it "recessed up" from the force of the jack, so i'm guessing to repair would mean taking off sump and flattening from inside?

Any pointers appreciated.

General Car Chat / Re: Stealer Oil Promotion on TC (Just About!)
« on: 27 December 2013, 19:41:29 »
Just picked up a sheet from local stealer for trade club offers - egs. given below:
Don't think they are doing 4 for 3 anymore.

10/40 20 litre barrel - £27.95 (usually £30.25)
5/30 20 litre barrel - £59.95 (usually £60.78 ::))

Assuming you have to add vat.

They also list a 5/40 - anyone know if this is fully synthetic? 20 litres for £39.95
Is this an on going promotion or does it have an expiry date :-\

Just got some 5/40w oil and was told that it was only whilst stocks last. They said it had already gone up a few pounds but would honour the price.HTH
