General Car Chat / Lotus Carlton 25th birthday event
« on: 30 April 2015, 20:05:00 »
I was lucky enough to be part of the first event planned this year to celebrate the 25th birthday of these iconic cars going on sale. 7 of us met up at the Little Thief on the A12 northbound at Feering. We convoyed up to the Bird In Hand pub, two miles away from the Lotus factory at Hethel, Norfolk. There we joined the other 13 cars and after many photo sessions had lunch and trundles along to the factory. The Official Lotus press photographer got us all into the  places he wanted and took a series of pictures that we will all get to view later. A tour of the factory and then 11 of us had a convoy back down the A11 to The Angel at Larling for an early evening beverage before setting off for home. Lots of people having to do double, triple and quadruple checks :o as we came past one by one  ;D Once we get access to the pics, Malcom should be able to post up as he is far brighter than me :)

3rd May, we are at Duxford with 7 LC,s promised

May 10th will see us as part of the Lotus cars display at Brooklands, not to sure how many will be attending yet

Billing is the clubs big celebration for these cars, hopeing for 50 on the sunday

Brands Hatch is another lotus club invite with a vauge promise that we may get a parade lap around the track. 15th/16th August for this one

Another possability is in October at the Vauxhall Heritage centre but yet to be confirmed

Is she related to Marvin the paranoid android? Here I am, brain the size of a planet and what do they ask me to do? Go and fetch the prisoners. I ask you, where is the job satisfaction in that?

The ship dissapeared last year from the collection at Stonden due to a fire. A broken bottle acted as a magnifiying glass on one of the really hot days. We have a former club members car in the collection there and the curator, mark, owns an omega himself

Good turnout for first meet. Nitro and wife came along from the Reading area, four LC,s Carlton CDX estate and two others in non club cars. Would have had an LC rep, another LC and an LO but the LO had an accident on its way there :(

Will post up date and time before next months meet

We were told in this area that the 5 litre cans were no longer available only the 20 litre drum now. Last time I was at my tc dealer it was £26 plus vat for the 20 litre

This years ABS field centre display will be for the 25th anniversary of the Lotus Carlton/Omega
We are hoping for 50 cars on the sunday. Our previous record was at Castle Combe a few years back when 32 cars attended but due to owners other commitments, only 28 were actually together at any one time
The ABS website is currently undergoing the final stage of testing so when anyone joins online, providing there details are usable i.e no "handles" instead of proper names, forum access is automatic. We are gradually joining the 21st century!!!!
