Title: Vauxhall Omega 2.2 CD 2003 wing mirrors
Post by: Andy A on 02 November 2016, 19:53:11
Did the CD come with heated wing mirrors?

I saw some for sale and they both had a small heated mirror image on the top outer part of the mirror. Mine has never worked and they don't have the symbol.

Do all Omega heated wing mirrors have the heated symbol on them?

Thanks

Which is ridiculous, as you can wind the window down and wipe the bloody thing! The passenger side isn't so easy.

All Facelift Omegas have heated mirrors... If one side doesn't work then it's either a broken wire or the mirror has been replaced with a non heated cheapy ;)

Be surprised if any Omega doesn't have heated mirrors tbh, even my Facelift mk2 Granadas had heated mirrors.

Clear :y

That's interesting. Mine have a tint to them. A right bugger reversing in with these new LED lampposts.

What's the best way to get the old ones off to check if there's power to them?

Hi Dr. Gollum

Little OT

I noticed that you are in charge with Granadas? I spent half a million Kilometers driving Granadas. Mk I, MK II and Mk II FL. 2.0 V6 (also OHC) up to 2.8 i. My Granada time started in the early 80s and ended in 1997 when I bought my first Senator A2 2.2i

My longest car rides I did with Granadas. From Bremen (my Hometown) to Gibraltar in two days. Also Kreta.

The biggest adventure was to ride from Berlin to Kiew in 1996 with a 2.3 Ghia saloon. My Granada maybe saved my life, helps me two times to get away from criminals. That was a first class road movie...

Rolf

Back to topic. I have 2 Opel Omega CD. My 97 Caravan did not have mirror heating at all. My 98 saloon have heating on both sides.

Be very surprised if the lack of heated mirrors wasn't due to previous owners replacing broken ones with cheapy non heated ;)

By no means a Granada expert, but have had seven over the years... 2x 2.3 LX manuals, a 2.8 Ghia X auto, a 2.8I Ghia X manual (one of my favourite cars), a 2.0 Scorpio, a 2.9 Scorpio and a 2.9 24v Scorpio, all Mk3 saloons 8)

Whilst on the subject of mirrors, how can I disable the auto-dimming on my FL elite, I hate it. I have managed to get rid of it on my Vectra by putting a bit of silicone in the rear facing sensor in the the interior mirror, but there isn't one on the Omega that I can see.

Swap it for the standard mirror and simply tuck the plug up under the headlining ;)

Quite why you would want to is a puzzle though... it's one of the more useful Elite bits ::)

Sensor is the black dot in the corner.

But its plug and play with a non Elite mirror, which would then give you a manual dim option like other cars.

Assuming not a late 3.2 with rain sensors....

I just find it easier to judge the true distance of vehicles behind on an unlit motorway for example.
Obviously I can unplug it but that would remove the auto-adjust with the seat memory buttons.

How often do you move the seat? Moving the mirror is hardly difficult :-X

Just checked my mirrors on my CDX, only the driver's mirror has the heated symbol on it. Is it easy to change the passenger mirror?

Yes, see above...

None of my Omegas had a heated symbol on them. All were heated...

See links above for suitable glass ;)

. Is it easy to change the passenger mirror?

Start the engine and put on the rear window demister. Then put the back of your hand on each mirror and then on the side window. If working the heated mirrors will be warmer that the side window. This is how I tested the new heated mirror glass. If both of yours are working then no need to replace.  :y

The line on the mirror, what does it do? Is it for blind spot detection? My passenger mirror is without this line.

It defines the wide angle end. Replacement glass has either heated/not and wide angle/not and blue tinted/not and stick on/clip on...

Nearest to factory is heated wide angle clip on. ;)

Tried it today. Both mirrors heating up. Is it worth replacing for wide-angle? That stops a blind spot?

Find them quite good really, I can still see a car that is level with the back of mine in it. There again, some drivers don,t need ,em as they never use ,em. :D
