Title: All next week on the BBC
Post by: STEMO on 08 February 2018, 13:02:00
People going very fast downhill, in the snow, on skis. People going very fast downhill, in the snow, on snowboards. People going downhill very fast, on ice, in bobsleighs. People going very fast in circles, on ice, with skates.
I can't wait, me.

The "normal" Olympics leaves me cold, boring as hell.

However, really enjoy the winter games and look forward to them. Pity I'm away till Sunday.

Maybe they'll have Whippet Snowboarding sometime.

Sure to be on youtube. The whippet will probably be wearing designer shades. :)

Although I don't actually have one, the whippet is a lovely dog. I would have qualms in owning one. Having a dog stops you becoming overweight and unfit, I'll wager there's a few on here could benefit.  :)

I have a book[can't be bothered at present to go look up the title]about a nurse/nanny who was on the Olympic when it collided with the cruiser, she transferred to Titanic and survived the sinking and was later on the Britannic when that went down and she survived that one too :o In fact she lived on into very old age.

As ever, potentially good coverage being amateurishly ruined by the insistence of Beeb management of heading every major sporting event with Bloody Claire Bloody Balding >:(

The wealth, breadth and depth of knowledge contained in her bonce barely qualifies her for mucking out horses, which is where she would still be were it not for the fact that her father is friends with the Queen ::)

Thank god for Eurosport :y

Doesn't look like it

I think we almost got something in Curling, a "sport" that was invented as an alternative to watching paint dry  ::)

I reckon we'd tie with the Russians on that one, which would still be a commendable effort given how much practice they get.

I really enjoy the Winter Olympics (except the Curling!), skiing, snowboarding, bob, luge etc etc

However . . . . the amount of TV time that is just some really boring people sitting aound a table yakking is staggering. Dragging on someone who won Gold in Figure skating 40 years ago, who can contribute nothing to the conversation,  and showing old video. And the the BBC compiling touchy-feely videos with tinkling "emotional" piano music. FFS   >:(

I was amused at one stage. The backdrop to the chat table is all suitably Korean, city scenes throught a big window etc. Claire Balding asked one comentator about when she was actually leaving to go to South Korea. Till then I actually thoight they were in South Korea.

Just get on and show the competitions, even if they are repeats due to the time difference

So, BB failed to get a medal in ladies curling, bronze went to Japan.

Japan Team - Cheerful, giggly, and pleasant, and having fun

GB Team - Miserable. po faced lot who looked like they'd been sucking lemons, and that was before they were beaten.

Claire bloody Balding notwithstanding, if the Games hadn't been shown by UK broadcasters you would be moaning about how unpatriotic they all are...

We may not have won many medals, but at least we turned  up and tried...  ;)

Yes, and we do have 5 medals which is a tremendous achievement when you consider most of the successful teams in these games are full of individuals who are born with skis or snowboards welded to their feet.  Unlike our children who hardly see any snow and ice in any real quantity, the Scandavian, Germanic, Swiss, Americans, etc kids either have to get around on the stuff as soon as they can walk, or they have mountain ranges they can practice on.

That makes one hell of a difference. :y

We can usually poach someone who's grandmothers sister was born in the UK. We have Canadian boxers and tennis players who represent Great Britain, so we need to offer a few foreigners citizenship of our wonderful country.

Well said Lizzie.

Had to smile. The Russians are still cheating re doping. Why on earth an athlete needs drugs to participate in curling is beyond me.
