If you buy a car that has a VED rate based on emissions-i.e. post 2001-does fitting LPG to it alter that rate in any way?Or is it that the LPG just makes it cheaper to run?

Manufacturers figures are the ones that count. You could fit an lpg system and never use it/break it, so you'd be constantly running on petrol.

Don't get me wrong I don't have a post 2001 car,but might yet end up doing so and just wondered if buying one with LPG on it was actually worth the bother.

Better off fitting it after purchase... Done badly it can make used much more of a liability...

It's just like any other component in a car, so check it it works properly. Test it from cold to make sure it clicks over from petrol to lpg and see how long it takes. Once it's clicked over to lpg it should stay on lpg whatever you do, sat at the lights on tickover, planting your boot down etc, if it jumps back to petrol and beeps furiously at you it has a problem. ::)
I bought my Omega with it's lpg system already in and it was fine, although I did improve it's performance with advice form James and Kevin. :)
By the time I sold the car that lpg system had done over 200,000 miles! :y

this /\, its 10 quid a year off, but it could cost you more than that to get it on the Register if you dont have the LPG Cert.
Used to be free Con Charge in London with LPG, but they saw the Light and stopped all that.
Talking of London and LPG, you need to be carefull with this TFL Charge nonsence, one of my London run arounds is a 2005 1.2 Corsa Van LPG which is on the DVLA and LPG Register as Bi Fuel however TFL now see this Vehcile as non Euro 4 compliant even though it is, so it becomes Chargable.

Look at LPG prices in your area, it’s no way near as good as it used to be.
Petrol around here is now around 1.15/L.
LPG is still 78p :(
Also remember you need to do at least 10k a month, before it’s even worth considering. :y

It's 69.9 at Fleet services currently.
The other station in Fleet is being refurbed. I think they may be taking out the LPG pump. That was always low 50's. :'(

Not seen it in 50's for over 2 years now, on all stations on my commute.

The supermarkets are generally in the mid/high 50s currently. Branded stations all seem to be a touch under 70p. Gas outlets low/mid 50s.
No idea about the likes of Countrywide, or whatever they are called this month, as they CBA to get their pumps fixed.

Pre 23rd March 2006 is the other big cut off, a circa £295 car registered on 22nd March goes to over £500 if registered on the 24th March! Same car just a different date on the V5
One of the reasons I got the Signum I did, first registered on 20th March 2006 so costs same as my Omega even tho it kills more polar bears, apparently
