No really I'm happy for you. Congratulations on getting it going. If it was me, I'd probably be running around with my Tshirt over my head!

My remotes are in my boot, in the jiffy bag they arrived in & doing nowt... for the time being. :'(

If that kind thought was aimed in my direction, thank you.  I've bought the ebay one, but I'm not uber-confident that it will be any better than the one I'm starting with so it would be nice to have a 'plan B'.

Darkus Lordus: what price did you get the fobs for, and did Vx not offer to code them to the car (or the car to them, whichever way it works) for you?  I would have thought (being very naive) that since they are useless without, it would be included in the purchase price.  ;D

Anyone know of a reason why my ROM-chip-swap idea won't work?

Hmm I'm in a similar situation. Got the 1995 Elite two years ago. Had the black dome but I didn't get any fobs with the car when I bought it.

I've just bought two new fobs (as above) from Vx using my trade card. (2x keys)+(2x remotes) albeit no chips in keys :(  & now in a situation where I'm now trying to get the alarm ecu to accept the remotes.

I was at the ABS AGM last night with someone who had a Tech1 & I had a little fiddle as well but we couldn't find the right option to get the fobs programmed in.

My next option is to trawl through the guides on here & see if there is any help. I have had other people with Tech1s who have offered to help though. I just hope they know how to do this!

Any offers anyone??  :)  Elite headlight switch with both fog switches, level adjustment & dial illuminations wheels.

Once I have a second known working one. then I can set to dissecting the old one!!!! [smiley=evil.gif]

hmm, I always thought that the induvidual switches had their own bulbs in them & the headlight switch bulb just illuminated the healight symbols above the switch.

Upon closer inspection, the fog light switches & the symbols for the adjuster dials are all illuminated but the main headlight switch & the symbols above it are not lit up.  :(

The filament on the bulbs looks fine, and have checked there is a circuit etc, but still no joy.

The contacts in the unit are clean, and the bulb contacts are set correctly so Im at a loss  :o

Has anyone else had this problem, and found a suitable solution please?

Yup I have this problem too on my Elite which is a pre-Facelift if that helps. I have tried different bulbs, had the unit out & cleaned contacts & still doesn't want to know. The lights in the fog switches & level & dash illumination dials work but the main switch just plainly refuses!

I'm interested in this topic. I have a 1995 'M' 3.0 Elite which I never got any remote keys with it when I bought it. The remote function is there as seen by the black dome in the headlining & I would like to have the remote function. I realise that I need a new key, but I don't know which ones.

What key do I need?
Would the Remote be built in?
How much work is involved?

I was told that the new remote has to be programmed to the car. Which in my case most likely involves me booking it in with Vx.  :(

My girlfriend tried lifting mine on the Elite & now it will only go up a little way before it starts making grinding noises.It won't go down either!

Particularly round Nottingham which seems to have the most piss poor dealers on the planet!

If it was a knwon problem it would be a regular failure.....and its not a regular failure so it cant be a known problem  :y

As for failure on a car witha  roof maounted aerial, its often the aerial cable where it connects to the rear of the radio and most commonly occurs if the original unit has been replaced with an aftermarket item.


I have a 1995 3.0 Elite with the original SC 804 head unit & a roof mounted aerial. The radio reception isn't too great on it so I'm interested in this topic as well.

I always thought that the radio booster is in the rear shelf along with the amp for the speakers. Could I be thinking wrong then?

I have one of these without display & a Philips 6 disk changer in my 1995 3.0 Elite & the only light that actually illuminates is the one around the volume control. Is there a way of getting into the radio & changing the rest of the bulbs?

I've been trying to get the remote central locking working on my 1995 M reg Elite. The car originally had it but I had no remotes given to me when I got the car.

Now I have two new two button remotes & two new transponder chips (yes I know it shouldn't have transponder immobilisor, but it's an ex Vx car) I'm looking to see if anyone can get then programmed in.

Whilst the Tech1 was on the car, the anti theft system blankly refused to accept the remotes & kept saying TC 25 check chart 2.

I have a feeling it's to do with the alarm horn. I believe it's either faulty, disconnected or simply not there anymore. I don't know where it's supposwed to be on an early prefacelift model either.

Any help guys here would be useful as both AndyC & I are both stumped!

Mind you the exhaust was like a tea bag with no mid section silencers then. Now it's got nearly new downpipes & cats & new mid & back sections.

I suppose that made a difference?

Late last year after having the belts & related kit replaced I took the Elite over to an ABS rolling road day to TCS Performance in Essex. It was also covered by Total Vauxhall magazine & I'm in it. (Jan 2009 issue)

I ended up taking the Elite as the Carly GSi wasn't at all well, I had not long owned the car & simply wanted to know what it had in it.

The rolling road was set up in such a way as to give a more realistic result unlike the usual ones that say a 1.2 Z12XE has 200bhp. The results from the Lotus Carltons & the other cars that were there proved this.

The thing that puzzled me was that my 1995 'M' 3.0 Elite was slightly down on power but up on torque. 189bhp & 290lbft to be exact. The operator came up to me after I had practically chewed by finger down to the knuckles & congratulated me on the torque figure.

Would any one know why the car would produce such results when running as standard spec?

The car looking at the history was a Vx car belonging to Lex Vx in Manchester & got transferred down to Luton for 2-3 years before it got sold off. I'm applying to DVLA to try & confirm this.

Ideas anyone?
