Omega General Help / Noisy injectors inside car.
« on: 04 December 2015, 09:38:48 »

2.6 V6 2001

I have just had the HBV replaced at the garage, and now the purr of the injectors is noticably lowder inside the
car. Same as before outside so not a problem with the injectors.
Have the garage left out some insulation or left a gap where the pipes go through the bulkhead.
Anybody else had this.

Omega General Help / Vacuum system
« on: 26 November 2014, 13:51:27 »

Anybody know what the inch-Hg should be in the vacuum system of a V6 2.6
I want to check mine with a gauge instead of just pulling a pipe off.

Omega General Help / Knock sensors and ECU reading
« on: 19 September 2014, 00:12:13 »
Now and again I get an engine rattle which sounds a bit like a diesel rattle, Yes me again, other times runs sweet and smooth. I have posted before on this subject, and I have narrowed it down to what I think is pre-ignition or pinking, and therefore possible Knock sensor problems. Tried changing MAF which improved it slightly, my thinking being, that if mixture is wrong pinking could also occur. I have now taken an ECU reading which is showing that knock sensors are not activated and there are no values reported like voltage etc, all values reading 0.  All visible wiring and connectors checked. ECU was upgraded a year ago from 3393 to 3412.                   WHY  ???      I will solve it,  I will.   >:(

General Discussion Area / Auto Box reset
« on: 29 August 2014, 22:20:37 »
It has been mentioned a few times on the forum about re-setting the auto box with a couple of presses of the snow button.
What is the actual procedure for this, should the car be moving or stationary, in park or drive, how quick or slow pressing the button ??? What does it actually reset???

Sorry wrong section, could somebody move me please.

Omega General Help / Faulty Knock sensors ???
« on: 31 July 2014, 00:17:44 »

What's the symptoms of faulty knock sensors? Can you hear the engine knocking (we used to call it pinking). As I have mentioned in a previous post I occasionally get what sounds like a quiet diesel rattle, but only when accelerating, and nothing when stationary and just revving engine. It also feels like it may be down a bit on power. Sometimes engine runs really quite and purrs, especially at the moment when the weather is hot. Checked leads for damage but they seem alright and not trapped. Is there anything else that could cause similar symptoms?  MAF maybe?       I am not getting any fault codes.

Omega General Help / Another misfire 2001 CDX 2.6 V6 facelift
« on: 01 May 2014, 13:47:57 »

I first had this misfire about a month ago. ECU reports random misfire & misfire on no 2 cylinder.
It first happened just on startup at sub 1000rpm and when revved higher, cleared itself. This didn't happen every time, just now and then. No lights came up on dash at this stage. After a few days it seemed to clear itself and didn't happen again for about 10 days,
missfired a bit on startup, but cleared as before with engine running smooth. About a couple of miles later I got stuck behind an eco warrior doing 25mph which, with the auto box meant most of the time the revs were below 1000rpm. The engine then started to misfire even at higher revs and the EML started to flash for a while and then stayed on and I assume went into get you home mode.
I decided to pull over and switched of the engine, then restarted and all was back to normal with engine running smooth and normal, and EML stayed off. Everything was then ok for about a week until last night and it happened again. Same situation got stuck behind a car doing 25mph and back came the misfire with EML lighting up. Pulled up switched off restarted and all ok again.
Came to work this morning without any hint of a problem. Why??
At first as other people, though it may be coil pack, but would this be cured by switching engine off and on again? Oil or water around plugs? haven't had a look yet, but again would a restart cure this? I wouldn't have thought so.
Any suggestions. It's going for it MOT next week so a good time to get the garage to do something.
Almost forgot  Engine has done just over 60,000miles

Omega General Help / Re. Oil pressure
« on: 25 April 2014, 14:13:02 »

Having been reading a few tales of woe about oil problems with the 2.6 V6, and the demise of the engine, is there any way to get an actual pressure reading instead of the, it's too late now, red light. It doesn't have to be fitted to the dash or inside the car. Just some way to see what the actual pressure is, as a check now and then. For example, is the pick-up filter starting to get blocked.
Either analog or digital would do.

Omega General Help / Noticed a small leak
« on: 25 April 2014, 09:12:37 »

Noticed this small leak at bottom nearside of radiator.

What is the red knob for, or is it just a cap?

Water level in header tank doesn't appear to have dropped over the last couple of weeks.

Omega General Help / Engine rattle??
« on: 10 January 2014, 00:24:23 »
2.6 V6 CDX 2001  Auto 57,500 miles genuine, engine bay like new. Had it now for 6 months, and put about 2,500 on the clock. Had a full major service, oil change all round and Cam belt and tensioners changed, engine and gearbox ECU's updated to latest versions.
No fault codes.

I occasionally get a quite rattle a bit like a piston slap. Engine will run as quiet as you like for most of the time
but sometimes, if I stop at a junction it will then pull away with this rattle which will then slowly go away. More noticeable
at higher revs and pulling harder. Not very loud, but there. Speed of rattle seems to match engine speed. I don't think its cam followers, seem too low in tone. Did have cam rattle, but treatment seems to have cured it. Also think it's too loud to be injectors. No rattle if just revved up when stationary, only when under load. Engine temp doesn't seem to make any difference.
Could it be the auto gearbox?   Will check tomorrow to see if rattle speed changes with gear change.
Car had been SORN for 1 year before I bought it, so wondered if rings might be a bit sticky.

Any ideas

Hi

After doing a bit of browsing around the forum, getting to know possible future problems, I noticed several instances where resets were required on electrical items, for example:

Windows, one click closing: Close window and hold switch until you hear the relay click.

Sun roof positions resets: Push button on fully open, fully up, and I think, when shut

Aircon recirculation flap (this one totally solved my steaming up problem): Switch on and off. The ECU then knows where it is.

It would be interesting to know, what else to check after a battery disconnect / reconnect.

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello
« on: 21 November 2013, 23:33:28 »
As I recently answered a post, I thought it about time I said hello to the group.

I have been a member for several months and have just been browsing through loads of posts
finding out all about my recently purchased 2001 2.6 CDX facelift. Were else could you find such a mine of information.
Purchased it with 55,500 (genuine) on the clock and immaculate throughout.
Had a major service and full cambelt change, just in case.
Previously had a 1998 CD from new as a company car which I purchased when I left.
Brilliant car but was starting to get a bit tatty and sad, then saw the facelift in Auto Trader which just kept calling me.
The rest is history.

Great forum and on a par with the Land Rover UK forum (Wife's Discovery1)
