Is Stemo correct? Can the ECU reveal the dirty deed?

Regardless of what is the main cause of the damp, good ventilation is essential, even if this means an air brick or similar through the outside wall.
I enjoy long hot baths in a modern well heated bathroom and condensation always occurs on all 'cold' mirrors and ceramics and has to be cleared by opening windows and operating an extractor fan to evacuate damp air.
Doing this first will give a much clearer picture of the real cause.

Ok, Lizzie! Thanks.
I should be able to get my arthritic hands to it reasonably easily, then.  :y

Very early in my business career, (Circa. 55 years ago), I was a member of our local 'Junior Chamber of Commerce' and the very progressive chairman organised a regional secondary schools 'speaking' competition which was held in front of a very large audience.
We were all asked to propose topics for presentation as a speech,, and my offering was;  'National pride is dangerous'.
Two of the contestants chose this as their topic, and I can still remember clearly the remarkable depth of logic and reasoning they both came up with, both right and left wing.
They each foresaw many of the world's current international problems and would put modern politicians and theorists to shame for their honesty and clarity of thought.
Their notions were anathema to the then current thinking, however, and caused quite a stir at the time.
In reality, I don't think their efforts altered people's thinking one iota, of course.

Omega General Help / vent housing cleaning
« on: 12 November 2018, 11:09:22 »
Am I correct in believing that the vent housing is behind the 1,3,5 bank on the driver's side and not the passenger side as stated in Fuse 19's excellent guide, or am I missing something basic?
Would appreciate confirmation, please.
Cheers,
Bill.

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Re: Windscreen wipers

For the cost involved it's not worth faffing around.
If you have, or can get access to, a Halfords trade card the discount on wiper blades is excellent, and all the varieties I've used on several vehicles have been perfectly good enough.
I got mine simply by talking nicely (no other commitment involved, other than a promise to buy half the store's stock on a regular basis- ;D) to a bloke behind the service counter.

Either weekend would be OK for me and cancelling or changing my accommodation booking isn't a problem at this stage, but if not many members are going to be there the journey distance wouldn't be justifiable for me and SWMBO.
However, I may be combining this with a visit to Serek, (not yet discussed), so I can wait to see what is finally decided.
Bill.

Thanks for that, AB.
It's a long time since I last went to a meet (at Newent) and as Sat. 1st. December is the 79th. anniversary of my parent's further infesting this planet with life I'll do my best to get along with SWMBO if she hasn't planned anything that I don't yet know about.
Would need to stay over, of course, so I'll make a decision as soon as possible.
It would be nice to put faces to some more of the clever (and crazy) people on here.
Cheers,
Bill.

What penalty would they have had to mete out if he had seriously injured or killed that rider?
The man is obviously a dangerous and unpredictable maniac whose lack of control or morality has no place in any sport, let alone one where people are prepared to put their well-being on the line to entertain others.
Get rid of him!!

General Car Chat / VW 2.0l Passat DTI DSG
« on: 19 August 2018, 11:24:49 »
Thinking of buying one of these about 4/5 years old as a replacement for the 3.2 Omega when I can eventually decide to let it go.
As I've now had to accept that arthritis etc. means that my spanner wielding days are over, except for light stuff, I will have to have major servicing done by my favourite independent garage as and when required.
As you might expect, my first consideration is the usual cambelt/water pump conundrum, (closely followed by Direct Shift Gearbox). Initial investigation online suggests 80k/4years being the current opinion amongst Passat owners, seemingly having been reduced from 120k for all the usual reasons. Does anyone have any different opinions on this, and is there any good reason why these figures are higher than the usual Omega recommendations.
I may end up with a vehicle with say 50k on the clock, which would tempt me to factor in the cost of cambelt/water pump work anyway, for piece of mind, as this will probably be my last car purchase before the grim reaper calls.  ;D

Chris waddle is on record as saying "He's very young for a goalkeeer (24) so is still learning. How long does it take to learn to catch a ball coming straight at you, FFS.
His first bloomer could be put down to simple misjudgement, but the second? Unbelievable!

General Discussion Area / Windows update
« on: 20 May 2018, 16:03:12 »
Help!
After being pestered to install a latest Windows update on my main computer I set the ball rolling last evening when I could allow it the time to install.
Following various screen instructions this morning, most of which I now can't remember, I have been left with a blank black screen with just a moving cursor, which does nothing else, and no way of moving on.
Can anyone suggest a course of action before this computer ignoramus calls in professional help?
I'm having to use an old, slow laptop for this post.
Any help would be appreciated.
