Omega General Help / Re: Late model powersounder wanted
« on: 14 November 2020, 03:35:58 »
Yep. It would be tragic to lose an example like yours to a fire over a poxy powersounder.

I'll get on it and remove it :y.  Is there a guide for removal ? and is there a trick to stop it making a noise as soon as its unplugged ? 8)

Thanks in advance.
Andy.
The procedure for disconnecting the main battery without triggering the powersounder is to switch the ignition on, wait for most of the warning lights to go out, switch the ignition off again and then run round and pull the battery connection off within about 20 seconds (can't remember the official figure and it is only approximate ).

The sounder might notice when you disconnect the data line and go off anyway.

My 'magnet on a stick' has got me out of trouble many times.

I think the last time I did wishbones I dropped the same bolt inside the chassis rail twice (and recovered it with the magnet) before I finally finished the job.

I once buried a large tape drive (external DLT) in the lawn using a sledgehammer and rage.  As far as I know its still there - I half expected that one day it would break back through the soil and bend the crankshaft on the mower, but no sign of it ;D

Shit! I thought the printer had it bad. :o

I thought that the running gear from a 2.2 diesel Omega (gearbox/propshaft/diff) was a bolt in replacement :-\

Don't know if the flywheel & clutch fit as well?

I may be wrong (I often am  ::)) but I think a wiring mod will take the immobiliser out of the equation.

Central locking should still be happy to work off the key in the drivers door.

I didn't post this yesterday because I thought you would still need a way to switch the alarm off. - shows how many years it is since my 94 Omega went to the crusher.............

Saw the owner of Ryanair Michael whatever his name is being interviewed by Piers Morgan this morning , then man must be completely insane & think the people who use his airline must be completely & utterly stupid.

His business model has worked so far - maybe he is correct  ::)

I made an error, I'm human, the world will keep turning. None of the other bolts in the engine had any issues with purchase, so if there are a couple of mm too short, it won't cause the end of civilisation.

I do agree it looks like there was something there, AndyH. But nothing was fitted at the point I removed it. But thanks for the reminder, I may google it, and see if other cars have any sort of spacer. If so, I'll get one  :y
Sorry James - I wasn't having a dig at you.

So the question is, which part of the engine now has bolts which are to short?

There appears to be a rusty ring on the front of the pulley as if there used to be a spacer there.

Anyone seen a metal ring with 4 holes on it lying around?

Edge Case
Quote
An edge case is a problem or situation that occurs only at an extreme (maximum or minimum) operating parameter. For example, a stereo speaker might noticeably distort audio when played at maximum volume, even in the absence of any other extreme setting or condition

In the news this morning: The first case of coronavirus in France was actually in December. It was misdiagnosed as pneumonia at the time, but a reexamination of the swab taken at the time confirmed it was covid19. This was before the initial outbreak in Wuhan made the news.
I and my family passed through the airport in Hong Kong on the 7th of January. They were using thermal imaging cameras or non contact thermometers to screen everyone. No explanation, I had the sense that something big was being covered up.
It could easily have started in October/November in Wuhan and been carried round the world by plane then.

There is jack all of value in a DPF, its just ceramic composites, its CATs and SCRs that have valuable metals in them.

And you shouldn't need to do anything to keep the ECU light off, its only a temperature and pressure sensor which can be left connected

I still say you need to get those injectors sorted, your piston failure was not foreign body caused, its overheated
I have been trying to get my head round that level of overheating. I assume that the injector must have been pissing fuel in all the time  :-\
I also assume that it would be obvious to any normal driver that something was seriously amiss .
Is there any chance that something wiring or ECU related could cause this issue? I have this notion that some piezo injectors have to be turned off after they have been turned on. If the wiring to one of those piezo injectors becomes faulty then they can get stuck open. (Not saying that Astras have this type of injector BTW)

Omega General Help / Re: 2.6 Oil Sump - gasket or not?
« on: 26 April 2020, 12:43:13 »
Yes defo no gasket, i've just removed it, also slid a bit of sealer up the side of the upper pan where it seems to be leaking, cleaned it all out, sprayed some brake cleaner to remove deposits and applied sealer, the proper stuff.

Also anyone know the torque settings for the sump, imagining around low teens 15nm or similar?
Pretty much all the 6mm bolts screwed into aluminium will be 8Nm

Any more and you will soon have an opinion on whether you prefer Helicoil or Timesert  ::)
